Vyzantio Apartments

What can I say about our stay… just lovely! The family are truly lovely and really care about your stay. The food is really good. The families commitment to animal welfare is fabulous to see. Just great 👍

Our accommodation was described as a Duplex with a balcony. It was in fact a double height room with an internal balcony that housed a second bed and the wardrobe for the whole apartment, accessed by a steel spiral staircase. There is a steel balcony rail that allows people using the top beds look down onto those in the lower bed. If anyone sleeping upstairs needs the loo at night they have to descend the noisy stairs and walk past the bed (not bedroom!) of the people sleeping below. The 'Sofa' is a hard wooden bench with a brown cloth cover containing a thin piece of foam, the television is behind it, on the wall, that didn't work. The kitchenette in the corner is contained in the same space, any cooking smells or noise would fill the entire apartment space. After 1 night we left the accommodation and found alternative better accommodation. Finally, on the day of the departure we approached the staff for the contact details of our Tui rep to confirm the details of our flight etc. We were told that they (Vyzantio) do not have those details, we would have to find it ourselves! We tried this, but the only details available were for an office in Argostoli that is listed in the phone book, is on the Web, and when called gives a disconnected tone. We visited the office, it was Tui logo'd but was clearly abandoned. The bar area, food and pool were excellent, and are the only things that stopped us giving 0/10. Our normal policy is 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all' but in this case the attitude of the Vyzantio representative we spoke to (on the phone, he wasn't on site) was unhelpful.

George and his family/staff were lovely, friendly and hard working. The room was basic but clean and adorned with lovely home made beach art work. We didn't try the TV. The safety deposit box was not screwed down and disappeared on our last day (I guess someone new had asked for one?!) We didn't use it, there was no point, but I wasn't happy they took it from our wardrobe while we were still in residence, without asking! There was a kettle, fridge and small hob but no toaster. We didn't cook in the room but saw the frying pan was greasy... They supplied a dish sponge and tea towel but not washing up liquid. The room was comfortable with air con and a veranda with a very pretty mountain view and wooded farmland below. I heard sheep, (goat's bells), geese, turkeys, and chickens/cockerels. The larger rooms were above ours and I think there were only about 12 rooms in total. There was a hairdryer. The resident cats were friendly and always came to our room or the bar for a fuss. One cat looks unwell but they do take her to the "Dr". The other cats look fit, healthy and looked after, most are neutered but there were a couple of small kittens. The pool & restaurant area were pretty with views of the mountain and the distant sea. It was very peaceful and relaxing and perfect if you want to come away and do nothing because there is no entertainment and never many people around. However there should be a warning that there are no buses and it is not easy to get anywhere other than a minimally stocked minimart up the hill, which also does a limited restaurant menu in the evenings. As a vegetarian I struggled here because there were just a few things I could eat. Cabs are not cheap and we were told it would be 60 euros return for a trip to Argostoli which was a 20 min drive away on winding roads (there is no way you could walk it). We were warned about the beach by other guests so decided to go down in a hire car (which we only had a few days from George's brother - I wish we'd picked one up from the airport and not waited till we arrived because it was expensive for a car that struggled on the steep roads). The accessible beach from the road was tiny and rocky. Do not be fooled by the "15 mins to the beach" that TUI quote! That would be great if it were flat ground! Apparently you could climb round to a nicer beach (past the nudist beach) but for many that is not a viable option. The car struggled to get back up the hill! These roads are quite challenging because they are so steep & narrow and I'd have hated to walk that way back up. We did take the longer walking route (on our last day) on rough tracks down to sandy Avithos beach which was beautiful with 2 Tavernas. It is a tough walk back up and took 2750 steps each way and 1 hour 10 mins to get back up with lots of rests to get my breath back! You need to be young and fit to stay here or have a car for the whole week (if you're a confident driver). We saw a lot of the Island when we did get the car and

We visited Kefalonia last year and had a great time so we thought we'd try somewhere off the beaten track for a change and Vyzantio fitted the bill. It's a cracking little place with pretty much all you need at hand, and this family run place lives up to the reviews. The rooms are basic but have all you need for knocking up a snack, and the shop is just a five minute walk up the hill and not too difficult. The walk down to the beach takes around 10 to 15 minutes though going back up takes a bit longer and could be a problem for anyone with mobility issues, and to be honest in my opinion it's not really worth the effort as there's only a concrete car park and a rocky shoreline when you get down there but it passes an hour and whips up a thirst for when you get back to the bar. I had read good reports about the Traditional Greek Food served here, but the menu seemed very limited with practically no Fish dishes, no Beef or Lamb and the only Chicken dish was in a burger, but we still ate here every night and enjoyed what was on offer. All in all a lovely little place run well by the wonderful friendly family and staff, give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Basic and beautiful accomodation and a no frills environment: expect traditional Greece here. If you want a busy resort with shops access to services ATM/Pharmacy/nightclubs bars etc then you must look elswhere this is a remote countryside location and you need transport to get to the towns. The city (Argostoli) is 15 min in taxi costs 25 euro each way. The trade off with this is the Stunning setting, the peace and quiet and the authentic feel of traditional Greece with the perfect hosts George and crew making this a pleasant and unique base to explore unspoilt Kefalonia. The local beach Paliolinos has spectacular views and clear waters although there isnt much at the bottom in terms of tavernas or shop and its a steep walk back up! Bring plenty of water. Use a car if you can. A car is recommended for this holiday. This was the most picturesque and cleanest island I have ever experienced and was so peaceful. We really had a wonderful time despite being the noisy family with 3 young kids not once were we made to feel out of place or treated as if we were being too noisy! All the guests here were lovely and polite and helpful. Friendly and understanding of the little ones and the staff and cleaners excellent too. The food here is really good they make such a great effort at the Vyzantio restaurant. George and his family truly made us feel at home. Special mention the Olive Tree Square at the top where the nearest supermarket is doubles as a wonderful Taverna if you ask in the shop. We eat there a couple times very lovely people, lovely man who owns it made us delicious home cooked fries tzatsiki greek salad olives drowned in Olive oil and the tastiest Souvlaki kebabs. He is a legend when we turned up late at 10.30pm begging for a meal he didnt let me down. What a star! Even gave us a lift home too and he was very reasonable prices. In all a great holiday. We revisited Vyzantio apartments this year (stayed last year also - which is something we have never done before at any other apartments in the Greek islands). We weren't disapointed! It was lovely to see the wonderful hard working family again, all so friendly & helpful as per. Fab rooms with everything we needed for two weeks holiday. This time we stayed in the upper rooms (the 6 below apartments are for 3 people; the 6 above can sleep 5). We were very happy having two balconies to sunbathe and chill on. Nicole's food was amazing and a traditionaly greek menu. We enjoyed the many gorgous cocktails on offer at the pool bar, (and other beverages!) made by the handsome George! Some previous reviews said that the walk down and back up to the nearest beach (Paliolinos) was unmanagable as it is hilly, but it only takes about 15 mins to get there by foot and as long as you don't go in the heat of the midday sun, it is fine. Many families managed the walk with no trouble at all. We loved feeding and petting the friendly cats, and swimming in the amazingly well kept swimming pool every day. The gardens are also well maintained and beautiful. The rooms were maintained by Marina who was so very helpful and happy. We did feel so much at home that when it was time to leave, we were so sad! Again, because of the remoteness & peaceful location of Vyzantio we were happy to see that there were many families with young children staying there who were contented to have the peacefulness of their surroundings, to play around the pool, feeling safe, and if not hiring a car, they hired taxi's to get to places around the island if needed. Prices around the area for food supplies and dining out (including Vyzantio) were similar if not cheaper than back home. We will be back again, as it was home from home for us.

Vyzantio apartments is traditionally family run, very clean and homely, with everything we needed to have ten days of chilled time away. This gave us the opportunity to relax, sunbathe, swim, eat, drink and get to know the family– perfect! We enjoyed making our apartment our home from home for the duration of our holiday. What a great team this family make, and they all work such incredible long hours to make everyone welcome and comfortable. Nicole was a wonderful host and an amazingly talented and versatile woman, who makes delicious and reasonably priced menu of traditional Greek dishes. She is one fabulously gifted lady with many talents. Marina cleaned our room every day, and changing sheets and towels every three days which is more than ample. She is a helpful & cheerful lovely lady. Annemarie, Nicole's daughter, does 'meet and greet', and is also very hard working and dextrous, serving on at the bar and restaurant & she is very helpful, knowledgable & friendly. . Geri made us feel very welcome also, and is obviously a hard working dedicated man to their family business. If you are looking for water parks & night clubs etc look elsewhere! The Vyzantio is set in a rural location with peace and tranquillity at it's finest and perfect for a relaxing vacation. We are returning next year, which is something we have never done before at any other apartment facility in the Greek islands. Thankyou all at Vyzantio for the best authentic Greek holiday we have ever had.

The hotel is in a very quiet area. The rooms are clean and the pool area is lovely. The staff were helpful and pleasant (giving us some good advice about the surrounding attractions) . The only issues were a cash only policy at the bar (no ATMs nearby) and that the towels were not always changed after use. Despite this, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quiet break in the sun!

We chose this place due to great TA reviews and they were all correct . We ate here every evening apart from once and same for breakfast . Food is great and same price as nearby restaurants . You will of course find cheaper but the convenience and quality is worth it . You really do need a car , without one if you have kids who are happy to stay in the pool all day you are 10 mins walk to the mini mart , walkable beach is a bit rubbish, and that’s it. With a car there is a Lidl 15 mins away and of course some amazing beaches and towns across this lovely island . Hire a car before you get here to collect from airport . The staff and family who run this place are all lovely. Highly recommended!!!!
