The homestay is a short walk from the bus stop (for buses No Red 1 and No 2 from the main Kinmen town of Jincheng) and a 7-11 convenience store. The traditional Fujian building is beautiful and an attraction in itself, with an atmospheric courtyard where guests could chill with coffee and/or a meal. But it has been newly renovated with modern amenities, and the place is very clean and well kept. The host was warm and really very helpful. When he heard that we wanted to walk up Mt Taiwu, he drove us to the start of the walking trail. He also gave us a contact for a taxi driver in case we needed a ride back. And when he learnt that we were tracing our ancestors, he brought us to meet an elder who might have a family register. Really thankful to have met a host like him.

When we were looking for accommodation in Kinmen, I wasn't sure I wanted to book a B&B. Looking at the accommodation available in Kinmen, it seems the majority are B&B and homestays. After having stayed at Zhu Shan Gandee, we finally realised that a good number of the traditional buildings in many of the ”villages” have been converted into accommodation. This one was in the Zhu Shan village where there are other B&Bs. There are no shops or restaurants in this village but downtown Jincheng is only a short drive away. This village is really nice and quiet (as would others I am guessing) and Zhu Shan Park is just a short stroll behind the house from which a top view of the village can be seen. Strolling around the village, this house stands out as more modern and attractive and the nicest in presentation (in my humble opinion). Inside, the common areas are excellent, well presented and homely. There are 2 courtyards to relax in and their atmospheres are so welcoming. We were out most of the time so didn't really spend too much time indoors enjoying what was on offer. Our room was a tad small but we love having a bidet to use. The bed was comfortable. A simple bread and jam breakfast is available if you choose to have it. There is plenty of ”help yourself” bottled and packet drinks in the fridge and in boxes on the floor if you don't want to drink them cold along with make yourself tea and coffee. There are no cooking facilities but there is a microwave. Finally, the lady host is really helpful and awesome. We rented a car so didn't need to be picked up. But she would go out of her way to ensure your stay is most comfortable and enjoyable. That hospitality personified.

Visiting Kinmen was like stepping into a hidden gem where time slows down. The guesthouse is tucked away in a peaceful suburban corner - you can feel all the personality of its current owners and of those who lived there before. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I was staying in a home: there’s a shared kitchen, laundry, and living rooms, plenty of parking, and more importantly - a snack bar with a water dispensing machine. Phoebe and Jacob went above and beyond: despite having busy lives to ensure my trip ran smoothly. They organised transport, chatted easily in English, and made me feel like a valued guest. You will want some form of transportation to get into the main town and explore around Kinmen. I loved it so much I extended my stay - no doubt I’ll stay there again.

It is far from the main road, but near the beach. So there is Pro and Con that each individual needs to consider. The person that welcomes us is friendly and warm, explaining all the necessary details that are needed. The bed is good and the water heater is functioning. The air-conditioning is cold. The beach near by is nice and one can see the 金门大桥.

What I liked: the location is very convenient if you’re coming to Kinmen from Xiamen. The homestay is walking distance from Shuitou Port (about 15 minutes). The owner is a very friendly and helpful person. He helped me rent an electric motorcycle and responded very fast to all of my text messages. The homestay is clean (the cleaning lady is very kind, too! ^^). There’s a lot of storage space as well as lockers. The shampoo and body wash in the bathroom were also really nice. What could be improved: the bunk beds consists of a wooden plank and bedding, so it was quite hard and a bit uncomfortable. However, I still managed to sleep well and there’s enough privacy. There are no locks in the homestay. Basically anyone from outside can access the public areas and the room with the bunk beds, which can be scary for some solo travelers. However, the homestay has security cameras and Kinmen is very safe in general, so I was never really worried. The door of the room is quite heavy and makes a lot of noise, so this is something to be mindful of when it’s late and you’re sharing the room with other guests. All in all, I had a great experience and would stay here again. I’m really happy to have had the opportunity to stay at a traditional house for such an affordable price.

I stayed at Tumbler Travel during my visit to Kinmen and found it to be a solid option if you’re looking for budget, no-frills accommodation with a bit of character. Location & vibe: Tumbler Travel is located in Jinning Township, not right in the busy center but close enough to key spots like Kinmen National Park and the airport — it’s only a short ride away, which was super convenient. Some reviewers said the area isn’t super lively with restaurants right outside, but it’s peaceful and a good base for exploring by bike or scooter.  Cleanliness & facilities: Guests generally mention that the rooms are clean and comfortable, with free Wi-Fi and basic amenities like air-conditioning, a fridge, and reliable water. It’s not a luxury place — think simple yet functional.  One recommended feature is that it offers free airport transfer (with prior notice), which is handy if you’re flying into Kinmen.  Service & atmosphere: Reviews note that the host was welcoming and helpful, especially if you’re a solo traveler. Multiple guests talked about a smooth check-in and staff who were happy to share tips about the island or help with directions.  It’s described as a nice youth hostel vibe, with shared spaces and a relaxed feel — good for meeting other travelers if you’re not in a hurry to disappear into your room.  Food & convenience: A couple of guests pointed out that there isn’t much in the way of on-site dining or restaurants right next door, so you might have to plan where your meals are if you’re not riding around or exploring on foot.
