Fig Tree Camp - Maasai Mara

From the game drives to the camp and property, and everything in between, we couldnt ask for better. We have been here before (10yrs ago) and insisted on coming back. During this trip, we were celebrating an 80th birthday. This staff went over and above to ensure everything was perfect. They helped us organized a surprise balloon ride at dawn and then surprised us all, with the masai people doing a dance, singing and cake presentation for my moms birthday. The staff were truly amazing and treated us like family more than guests. It was only 3 days but when we left we felt as though we had known them for years. A huge thank you to Stella and Sheila for making this celebration so amazing.

Beautifully situated on the banks of the Talek River, within the Masai Mara park, this was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Friendly and efficient staff, accommodating management, excellent food and comfortable luxury tents contributed to the magic of the masai animals.

Fantastic place in the middle of the jungle. Luxurious, good food, best people. Nice swimming pool and good restaurant and bar. The staff is super nice and they make you fee like a king (which I am by the way). Especially Moses deserves big compliments. We slept in the tents which was far more soecual and luxurious than the best hotelrooms. If you consider going here: go!

This was one fantastic place. An oasis in the wild. The rooms were clean. The food was amazing. The staff are the best on earth. They treat you with the best of respect and are fortuitous knowing our needs before we did. While the generator service was on a timer, it was never not available when we needed it. The best part was being away from all the technology and having a back to nature experience while on safari. The Safari at the Masai Mara, on which the Fig Tree sits, was the best experience I have had, seeing the wild life up close. The Fig Tree is indeed an oasis in the wild. Thank you Fig Tree for giving a great experience.

We opted for the luxury riverside tent, it was great. Sitting on the porch watching the hippos play in the Talek river was wonderful. I booked this lodge because of a review which said "...only go somewhere else if The Fig Tree is full" and I now second this viewpoint after a 4 night stay and 5 fabulous game drives. At meal times we were served by Stella. One of the staff who were incredibly polite and very well presented in tradional attire. The food was good...usually a buffet with a speciality chef alongside doing additional dishes. Our game driver, Jonathon, was very adept at navigating the rivers and ravines of the Mara park and locating the action each day. We did 5 drives in 4 days each taking several hours and we saw hundreds of different animals including 4 of the big 5. Each drive was a wonderful experience with different animals interacting with each other in freindly and hostile manners. Its a roller coaster of emotion out there, we were never once bored. The room/tent we had was comfortable and totally bug free it seemed to have a good age to it but had been well maintainedand upgraded over its life. Security staff were always present to assit with torches if dark or give guided tours if light. The bar area was very reasonably priced. I highly recommend.

We booked 3 luxury tents for 3 nights but were given lodges/ chalet .My family waited for 2 hrs after long journey while our travel agent krpt arguing with them but reception was not bothered and rigid.Looked like they were discriminating while giving rooms.We had no choice but to stay in chalet for 2 nights which I wouldn't have booked even at half the price for what we paid.They were charging 800 USD for chalet on *********** on the day we booked our tour. Toilets were dirty , seats had pee stains.Basin got blocked , toiletries were old and dirty, quilts were not covered , rooms had mosquitoes , spiders .Lizard fell on my son's shoulder, water bottles were refilled without sterilising them.Bottles were half used and not replaced at time of check in, water glasses were tinted.Didnt use either of them I can keep on adding on to this list Surprisingly tents had different level of cleanliness and no mosquitoes and insects inspite of river facing in which water was stagnant. Kudos to Chef Vijay for providing us great indian food.Buffet had good variety but flies on food was disturbing. Staff was ample,honest , hardworking but not trained well.

Loved the place. It overlooks the canal which has hippos and crocoldiles lazing around. The food and staff is excellent. The masai who lives closeby even gave us a walking tour around the area which has bucks and deers glancing at us. He even made us a stirrer from the tree which we carried home as a souvenior. Our game drive guide Joel Nkukuu was so knowledgable that we had the best game drives and saw everything we possibley could.

Location location location This camp lies the perfect spot so much wildlife around. Tents are riverfront and very well designed. Madras very hard but rest inside inside tent all great. Its very expensive priced as a 5 star camp but our expectations to ambience facilities food was much higer than what they delivered. Their spa do not have any priority, if you cant provide a spa bed and a propper trained therapist you are better of not offering this service. Food was so basic and lack of inspiration that we had to agree in our family this was what it was and it should not ruin our stay. Game drives on the other hand was 100% amazing we did 5 and they all impressed us, priced at 200 usd per game drive they are also not cheap. Staff very freindly and attentive, not their fault they are are not given better resources to work with. Wifi only work around reception and restaurant no surprise it is advertised so, but again to offer wifi for the tents would not be any significant investment. Generator also have hours during the day where it is off, this could also improve when you are in this pricerange. I would expect more investment in a camp with this potential.

Not enough words to describe the unreal feeling the entire time you are there! Incredible people and service, fantastic food, animals everywhere, etc. If you go to Masai Mara, you have to go to Fig Tree!
