Been going to Fenwick hotel for years for food and functions and was always impressed, however, sadly this wasn't the case during a recent visit. It started off badly when we weren't allowed to sit outside in the lovely garden area because there was a function on. Instead we were directed to the smoking area beside the wheelie bins in the car park! We waited 45 mins for our starter at dinner (our ticket was lost). Food wasn't the best, not as good it used to be. The card machine wasn't working. Service was a bit hit and miss, although breakfast staff were good. Not all drinks on the menu (cocktails) were available. The hotel cleanliness standard wasn't as good as it used to be either (thick layer of dust on hair dryer cord, lots of marks on glass doors). It was all a bit disappointing, especially given that it was for a birthday celebration. I felt that the standard at the Riverside Irvine (sister hotel) was much better. That said, the Reception staff member and staff on duty at breakfast were very nice, but I won't be going back in hurry.
