Disappointingly average. First room allocated was totally unacceptable; it shouldn't even be offered to any guest. Room 439 is poked into the eaves. Nowhere to put clothes/belongings, wash basin next to the bed, curtained alcove for shower in the bedroom, toilet in a cupboard, very noisy roof space immediately above your head. Ceiling so low one cannot sit up in bed. They really have a cheek even having this room on offer at all. Breakfast buffet mean compared to similar graded Swiss hotels.

A fabulous, cosy friendly hotel with amazing food and spa. We thought it would be “ok” as we were travelling via the ski operator Headwater, but our expectations were far exceeded. Location great in the lovely village of Kandersteg nestled in the midst of the Bernese alps.

The absolute best Holiday we’ve had, such a warm friendly welcome, the hotel is beautiful, like staying with family, the beds are so comfortable, the room and being able to sit on the balcony and take in the views, staff are all so lovely, couldn’t be any nicer, they always had smiles on their faces, not to mention the adorable family dog, really didn’t want to leave, the food was so so good, something different every night beautifully presented and the flavours just Devine, with all local produce, this place should be a 5 star, the views are unbelievable, something to do everyday, just up the road is the train station, which is so easy to use… the cleanest place such lovely people in Switzerland, we hired e bikes and went hiking every day. The owner of the hotel helped us with the routes and advised us of places to go see. The best place to go relax and unwind just the sound of running water, cow bells and bird song. Can’t wait to come back here, so much to do. Missing the food already.

Had a wonderful week at the Alfa Soleil, all the staff were very friendly, the room was clean and spacious enough for two with the best view you could wish for. we stayed half board and the food and service was excellent. Would recommend a stay here to anyone

We booked through Headwater Holidays and stayed for a week and we loved staying here. Our room at the front of the hotel was comfortable and well appointed with a nice balcony which overlooked the mountains. The meals were excellent. Evening meals were typically four courses and were restaurant quality. Breakfast was good and there was bread, meat, cheeses, salad etc for making your own sandwich to take out for lunch. Overall we couldn’t fault the food. Staff were all excellent. Friendly and helpful and always with a smile. The hotel is well situated in the village and only a short walk from the railway station. We had some wonderful hikes straight from the hotel, our stay included three cable car trips and local buses Overall we loved our stay and were sad to leave. We would definitely recommend and we would visit again. One thing to note in Switzerland the usual 2 pin European plug adapters don’t work as the Swiss have a narrow / oval shaped plug with 3 round pins. Most guests came with the wrong adapter, as we did. The hotel will lend you one during your stay but one might not be enough if you have lots of devices to charge. Worth checking and picking up a couple from Amazon before you leave

Lovely family run hotel in a delightful small Swiss village. The owner is the chef at the restaurant, called Nico’s. We had two excellent dinners there.The reception staff are helpful and friendly.

My wife and I stayed in the Hotel Alfa Soleil on a 5 night walking holiday booked through Headwater Holidays. We were made to feel very valued and important guests from the moment we arrived at Kandersteg railway station. Adriano met us on the platform and drove us the short 3 minutes to the hotel, situated on the outskirts of the village. Adriano then offered us a welcome drink and gave us a very comprehensive overview of the hotel and our planned activities for our stay. Our room had a great view from its balcony and it was clean and the ensuite was a good size and well equipped. The hotel had a good spa and swimming pool, somewhere to relax in after a day of mountain walking. The food at every meal was beautiful - well presented and nothing was any trouble for the staff. On rainy days, staff suggested alternative places to visit and we would recommend a trip to Spiez. The cable cars were all within a reasonable walk from the hotel and the guest card we received on arrival gave us free travel on both train and bus services in the Kandersteg region. Overall, a great holiday in a super hotel in a very pretty Swiss village, with spectacular scenery everywhere. Our only negative comment is that 5 days was not enough time to do everything we wanted to!!
