The Tontine Hotel & Bar

The meal was disappointing. I had pizza and the waiter brought me a pizza cutter which would not cut through the crust. My knife would not cut through it either and I ended up pulling it apart. It was not very tasty. There was a lot of it though so you wouldn't leave hungry if you ate it all, which I didn't. Terry had what was listed as Chicken Supreme in a Diane sauce. Really? I've never seen Chicken Supreme or Dian sauce that was brown. It was edible but not great. The place looks tired and in need of refurbishment. The window frames outside are rotting which doesn't inspire you to go in but it was forecast heavy rain so we booked it as it was the nearest restaurant to our accommodation. would not be inclined to dine there again though. The waiter was friendly and helpful. We didn't complain as the meal was edible, just not of a very good standard.

Stopped for brunch. Delicious choices are available. Sandwiches were made fresh to order. Full of flavour and good quality produce. Coffee was lovely and hot Great service, too We chose to sit outside with lovely views of the Ironbridge, but seating also plentiful inside

The Tontine – Ironbridge A lovely hotel bar directly facing the famous Ironbridge. It was named after a Tontine contract will set up by the bridge’s founding father’s including Abraham Darby. A Tontine leaves the money accumulated for it to the last surviving signatory of the agreement. (They were used as the plot of many an Edwardian Whodunnit as the killer turns out to be responsible for the death of the other potential beneficiaries). Though they served food I just had a very nice pint of real ale. Comfy spacious drinking space and very friendly service. Arthur Chappell

Worth the walk down the hill with a dodgy knee! Warm welcome on arrival and then the best baked Brie & Beef Sunday Roast for a main course. Easy drinking with a bottle of the Rose Invenio and all round very pleasant way to spend a Sunday lunch with a fabulous view of Ironbridge. Will definitely be back & would recommend a visit to locals & visitors alike! 🤤

We went for lunch on 13/2/24 myself, my wife and 2 nieces. The place was grubby only one young woman in attendance at the bar, dealing with drinks and food orders, serving the food - she was run off her feet but helpful and apologetic and this review does not blame her for any of this poor review. We had to wait nearly one hour for our food which was simply 3 pizzas, one meatball pasta dish. An inexcusable amount of time for us to be kept waiting. When it arrived one of the pizzas was burnt, all 3 were greasy and poorly cooked. Eventually we were told that the 'chef' had arrived late but if he/she was actually the chef then clearly the hotel needs a new one! Dogs were allowed to wander around the room noisy and inappropriate and annoying for us and others. Surely in a restaurant pets should not be allowed. Altogether the hotel is a disgrace, where was the manager one wonders?

Lovely warm welcome from the second we walked in, the lady serving was very polite and accommodating which made our experience and even made our pooch feel welcome :). The food was delicious we had a jacket potato and bacon and Brie panini and both were very nice!

We went for a meal as a family of four. The food was excellent and very good vale for money. The pizzas are delicious and plenty of choice on the menu. The staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend eating here.

After receiving a buyagift voucher for my 60th we booked this hotel in August for an anniversary stay in early December. After a 4 hour drive we arrived at late afternoon to find the place closed. After managing to get in a side door which was left open by the builders I went in to find a building site scenario of tools, pipes and bits of wood everywhere. Upon finally meeting the manager I was informed that there was no bar or restaurant facilities available for the duration of of our 2 night stay due to it being out of season, a point I would rather have been informed of when I spoke to them 2 weeks earlier to check the booking had been made. As the manager informed me " it is more a guest house than a hotel" and the fact that its a grade 2 listed building meant they couldn't change the 'Hotel' part of the name! When I queried the lack of what I consider to be 'Hotel' amenities I was told bluntly "Well its Ironbridge in December, everything's shut!" Despite this we found a nice pub with rooms just down the road, The Malthouse, which I can highly recommend for the hotel, the staff and the food. If I could rate this a 0 I would mainly due to the managers total indifference to my situation and the fact that they refused to refund the voucher when Buyagift contacted them even tho they had provided no service whatsoever! Buyagift on the other hand get 5 out of 5 for giving me a replacement voucher in excess of the one used. Needless to say I won't recommend this 'Hotel'!!

We had booked a table for their Italian Night in the Architect. We both loved the amazing food, will 100% recommend. Chef came to ask personally if all was ok, not had that before. Loved the pleasant warm a**osphere. Thanks guys with you all a very merry Chris**as
