The Red Lion Hinxton

We were looking forward to some rare roast beef for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately, it was so rare it never arrived at our table! At 1.30pm we were informed that there had been a rush on rare beef and only beef well done was available. Disappointed, we opted instead for lamb - so long as it was cooked rare. What we got was medium to well done lamb. Doubly disappointing. Good service, lovely veg but poorly organised and executed.

Comfortable and quiet room, great breakfast and a delicious dinner. What more could you want. Thanks to Sam for looking after us so well. We will definitely be back. Apparently this review has to be 200 characters long so I will definitely recommend the pork belly….made it!

Very stark and unwelcoming room with the smallest television possible and terrible lighting. Hard floors, a poor quality mattress and torn duvet cover conspire to make this feel like a cheap motel. A loud high pitched buzzing noise in the bathroom was particularly irritating. Everything in and around the pub, rooms and gardens is slightly shabby and uncared for, which is a shame as it is clear the initial inves**ent was made in the buildings. The service on arrival was casual to the point of disinterest, and the restaurant service was equally poor….got the feeling the two people running the establishment found customers quite tedious and inconvenient. The food was okay, but neither inspiring or skilled. Won’t be back…

Premium price but an average experience. Location is its high point.

A lovely old pub, good people, clean and quiet room

Pre booked a table for 8 for fathers day but had to add 1 more place. Staff more than accommodating. Sat in a nice part of the restaurant staff very attentive for our needs. The adults had the roast children had other dishes. The food was excellent called out chef to thank him personally for the food. Took photos to capture the moment. Will definitely call again.

Went to Red Lion, Hinxton, for the tapas evening - absolutely brilliant! All the dishes we had - five I think - were clearly made from scratch with considerable skill and care. They tasted delicious, just as good as in deepest Spain. Excellent service too from smiley waitress and great staff. We’ll be back!!

The property is in the same grounds of the very cosy traditional pub. Staff really nice and friendly. Our room was in a quiet corner. Spotlessly clean but it was very bland. Very high ceiling with grey walks and plain white duvet It would have been more welcoming with a colourful throw on the bed, perhaps a picture on the wall something to soften it. Other than that (hopefully constructed criticism) it was a nice place to stay and we would go again.
