Cameo Hotel and Suites

I never got my final email. Never received a code and was forced to drive back 3.5 hours home after our trip to the city. No way to reach any one for help. Phone number did not connect. No internet contact was available at the time I needed it. (Might be available now). I’m just disappointed in the whole mess, losing my money on top of that is a lesson learned. Never again.

Party in the next room....smell of pot all through the whole floor.

Despite posting email and phone numbers on the website, the Cameo staff was unresponsive regarding issues with our stay. We tried several times to contact the hotel regarding a need to change our reservation. Our attempts at communication were all several days in advance of our originally scheduled arrival. No one picked up, returned calls, or emails. Finally, we called our booking company and told them to cancel, since we couldn’t reach Cameo. The booking company FINALLY was able to reach Cameo 24 hours before our scheduled arrival after trying for 2 days. Cameo’s response was to refuse a refund! When we responded that we would notify our credit card and dispute the charge, suddenly we are inundated with messages. Right. Can’t get in touch with you until after the deadline for refund was past then carry on at length trying to justify shady business practices.

I would like to write a review about my stay at Cameo Hotel and Suites but unfortunately I can't. As of my writing of this review Hurricane Lee is barrelling towards Nova Scotia and is sure to cause havoc across eastern Canada due to its high winds and heavy rainfall. Due to this, my flight into Nova Scotia was understandably postponed. This means that three of the four days that I was meant to spend in the wonderful city of Halifax, while staying at the Cameo will no longer be occurring. I called the airline as there were some issues with the new booking and they were more than accommodating. I called the car rental company and explained that my needs had changed and I would no longer require the car during that time and they were considerate and friendly and gladly helped us with the unexpected change. I called the Cameo to explain that due to the storm we would not be able to stay with them and they told me: too bad! See I no longer required the room for the first three nights but still wanted to stay for the last night as my new flight would be in by then. They told me it was not possible to cancel just the first three nights but that I would have to cancel the whole booking. This of course worried me as I would now be without a place to stay for my first night in the province (I am travelling around the province and had other bookings for future nights). But I did as they said and cancelled the whole booking. I then tried to rebook for just the one night and, lucky for me, a room had just become available! So I booked that room. I then found out that I was being charged $470 for my cancellation of the original booking. I emailed the hotel and explained what had happened and asked if they would waive the cancellation fee due to the extenuating circumstances and they told me no. Long story short, I will be staying at the Westin.

When arriving on site, we could not access the building. We had to reach out to the owner to get new access codes. The 204 appratment was clean but very dark as the only window there point to an internal court with no sunlight.But the real problem was that we couldn't sleep before 2AM as there was loud music sound coming from adjacent building. Luckily, we had to spend only one night there...

Easy entry with codes for the doors. Everything is timed based on your reservation. Room was comfortable with a seating area and dining area. The hotel warned of possible construction noise but they provided ear plugs and there wasn't any extra noise. The floors were a bit hard on the feet - bring slippers.

Excellent clean accommodation for $$ value. Check in was very straightforward.

Cozy spot with great location and easy access to restaurants and the waterfront. We stayed one night in a suite facing the water (ie not over the noisier Argyle Street side mentioned in other reviews). It's a bit more like an Air BnB with self-check-in using access codes, but the process was fine and communication was clear. We had no trouble once we found the entrance which is not highly visible from the street. Covered parking is available in the nearby MetroPark location on Granville St. Our suite was very clean and well-provisioned; compact, but with a good-sized deck with a harbour view. Bedroom on second floor also with a view. AC was not working yet - really the building is still under construction with the ground-floor restaurant unfinished when we were there. Traffic on Barrington street was noisy, but no more than you'd expect for any downtown location. We'll check the place out again once the facilities are finished.

Nicely renovated boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Halifax. Beds are comfortable, linen is new, suite has all appliances. However, BEWARE, suites facing Argyle St. are directly above a roof-top patio restaurant bar. The City of Halifax does not seem to have a noise bylaw because loud music plays until 2:00am. If you plan to stay here, IT IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST, to ensure your suite is on the harbour side (Barrington Street). Of course there was no mention of the patio noise when we booked. :(
