We first stayed at this hotel over 30 years ago. It was much better then than now, sadly. The food then was amazing, staff helpful and friendly, there was a cinema on site, an outdoor pool, and the general atmosphere was more in keeping with a holiday atmosphere than the current atmosphere. We arrived into our Spa room ( definitely the best the hotel has to offer), nice and sunny, large and contemporary, walk in shower and large modern bathroom. Amenities such as shower gel, shampoo, bottled water etc. no Nespresso machine as seems to be the norm in most hotels, just a kettle ( having worked in hotels I know better than to use the kettle!). We arrived quite hungry so ventured down to the restaurant. The service left much to be desired. Apart from one other table with 3 women on ( drinks only at this table) we were the only people in the restaurant. The waiter gave us one menu between the two of us. After a long wait he took our order. No friendliness was shown. Our food arrived, very lacklustre fayre, and expensive for what it was. Breakfasts were the same, unfriendly and no service whatsoever! All self service, and some items had to be paid for as extras. Some days we were told where to sit, others we could choose! Most people opted for the room where the bar is, as this wasn’t so busy, loud, or bright. Our room was always cleaned and fresh towels etc daily. But just a general unfriendly attitude from the staff. Coffee of any description was diabolical! We’ve decided that we probably won’t be going back to HdF. It was a very expensive week, and Jersey overall is now pricing itself out of the holiday market.
