Was an easy booking and great stay

I previously stayed at this hotel a few years ago and had a great stay, so I was really let down this time around when the quality wasn’t as expected. The pros: the front desk staff was friendly, the room was ready early, the decor is fun, the view from the room was nice, and parking was cheap for a city hotel. The cons: our bathroom floor was covered in long hair. It seems like a luxury to actually get a clean room these days. But more challenging than that was that the bathroom door would not stay closed. It would just slide back open. To clarify, I don’t mean that it was even broken but that the mechanism for it to close and/or lock required a hole to be drilled into the door jamb that wasn’t there! So it’s not like this issue had just occurred. For two solo adults traveling together, this was a major issue! We would have complained or asked for a different room (which I hate doing) but we didn’t have time because we had dinner reservations and a concert so since we were just staying one night, we decided to just tough it out. I had to take a shower with the door jammed closed from the outside of the bathroom with a piece of luggage and then had to have my travel partner move the luggage so I could get out. Not the type of shenanigans you’d expect from a Marriott and certainly not safe if there was an emergency. One last complaint was that the parking garage elevator was broken and apparently has been broken for awhile. This is apparently owner by the city and not the hotel, but a notice elsewhere in the garage or before checkin would have been great so we knew the best area to park to avoid dragging our luggage up several levels.

My friends and I headed to Greenville for 4 nights. We wanted a downtown hotel at a reasonable rate. The Aloft fit the bill for us. Figuring out check in was a bit tricky. They are attached to a parking garage; you go up to the 6th level of the garage to check-in on the 4th floor of the hotel. On foot there is a street level entrance off the pedestrian area of ONE plaza; you take the elevator up to the 4th floor for reception, the bar area and the coffee shop. All of the renovations were complete when we stayed. Our room was comfortable and had the amenities we needed - including a room safe and small refrigerator. The only thing that would have been better was to have 2 chairs in the room - there was just a single chair. The location was great - you walk out to ONE plaza or to Washington Street. There are multiple restaurants, stores, etc. close to the hotel and within a half mile many more. We love to walk so it was perfect for us.

Great experience overall at Aloft - quick check in, clean room, quiet, nice outdoor space on upper level patios. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The location in Greenville is ideal for walking to restaurants and Reedy Park. Highly recommended!

Very convenient to downtown with all the restaurants and stores. They allow pets if you are traveling. Staff will even offer a treat for your pet. They have a special walk for your furbaby to do their business. The WXYZ bar was well stocked and offered views. The only confusing part is you check in on the sixth floor. There is a garage attached to the hotel which is great.

Disappointed as we booked online and there was never a word of the fact that hotel areas were closed and getting into and out of hotel was a process. Staff are fabulous. Hotel should be more upfront about their renovation limitations. We could have spent the exact same rate at a big brand fully functioning hotel within blocks (walking) away. Felt burned by the non-disclosure. As a large corporation I think they will be numb to this feedback. What can you do if you were them? Be honest about the state of their hotel? Discount because of the inconvenience? That all would not work for the bottom line, would it?

Booked a room for date night downtown, walked into the lobby to find that the hotel is torn completely apart for renovations so there is no bar, no lobby area when you enter from the parking garage and it smells like construction and dust. We were assigned a room and upon exiting the elevator in the floor all you could smell was the nauseating odor of paint, went to our room to find that it smelled worse/stronger of paint than the hallway, the fridge was not working and the bathroom door felt like it was going to come off the track. Funny enough speaking about bathroom door when we went downstairs there was a lady at the desk asking for maintenance because her daughter was stuck in the bathroom in their hotel room due to the door coming off the track. Long story short, this may be nice in a year or 2 but definitely stay clear of this place until renovations are complete. We asked for a refund and stayed a couple blocks away at the Westin Poinsett and I will say I was not disappointed with Westin whatsoever.
