One Holyrood Hotel & Cafe

Nice decor and relaxing atmosphere. First class service from the waitress. A very enjoyable experience and a nicely cooked breakfast. Highly recommended will return. Reasonable prices. There is a lovely garden area for outside dining.

We have experienced Holyrood a number of times, this occasion was attending a wedding, staff helpful, and always on hand and delaying promptly with all their guests. Meal was very nice, good potions. Our room, we love the feel of Holyrood, old school elegance. Very spacious, comfortable double bed, plenty of space to get changed and have all our photography gear, bathroom is good size. With a lovely large mirror for both of us to use while getting ready. Check in and out is seamless the team, make sure you know what is expected and in your rooms their are information pack to note anything you might have missed. With additional information on the history the building which is a worth while read. Location, heart of newport, so great for both public transport just a short walk from the station. And public car park round the corner. The building is well maintained, and you can enjoy the character of the building with the old support beams on show. And well as the garden which is very picturesque especially with the sun and garden in bloom. You have the option for patio or green to dine or chill, and relax.

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch and came across this place. Didn't realise it was a hotel at first. We asked if we could have a table and they said they were fully booked but we were welcome to sit and eat in their lounge. What an amazing place. The lunch was delicious, the service excellent and they have a lovely garden out the back. We bought some cakes to take away and ate them later. They were delicious too.

Please turn the piano down we could not have a conversation. He went on and on and on same style no light and shade it's dreadful. I paid £70 for very good food and service but the din ruined it. Other people were saying the same. We won't go back when there's live music. Shame the food is great quite costly but you don't mind when you get a nice experience but this wasn't.

Quirky multi-purpose building with real warmth running through the whole operation. My room/bed was very comfortable, a huge modern bathroom, and spotlessly clean. Breakfast spot on. Staff couldn’t be more helpful. Suspect it’s even better in summer when fuller use can vibe made of the garden. Would happily stay again.

In March, 2022, I was preparing for a couple of firsts! I was traveling to the Isle of Wight for the first time as I was to deliver my first TEDx talk! It was late when I arrived at Holyrood. I was famished, but the restaurant was closed and the delightful lobby sitting room was quiet. Sebastian to the rescue! The night manager/chef was more than happy to help. He whipped up a delicious poached eggs with smashed avocado on toast and I was fed and tucked into my lovely top floor room in no time. In the morning, I descended into the bright breakfast room overlooking the carefully landscaped back garden full of delicate spring flowers. I was served a fresh fruit salad with homemade granola and yogurt. And as I was pushing the plunger down on my individual French press of coffee, a tall older gentleman sat at the table next to me and gave a kind, "Good morning." We began chatting and it turns out this was the owner of Holyrood, Richard Holden. Years ago, he and his wife Sarah-Jane noticed what was then a dilapidated historic building in Newport. An architect, Richard envisioned the possibilities, and together with Sarah-Jane, they transformed it into Holyrood. Throughout my stay, I was surrounded by kind and caring team members, delicious food and comfortable pillows, linens and toiletries in my room. Thank you, all, for making my first visit to the island one I would love to repeat. Oh, and my TEDx talk experience went very well too!

Perfect place to stay for our new year break! The staff were welcoming and helpful. We stayed in Room 8 which was lovely with a view over the courtyard. Breakfast superb (and not added as extra). We will definitely return here on our next trip!

Great little place, exactly as described. Super friendly staff. Very handy to everything Newport. Nice breakfast. Handy street parking which was convenient for us. Highly recommend

We dropped in here for lunch on a wet Saturday and were surprised at how quiet it was. Our order arrived quite quickly and the food was really good, but over £30 for a soup, quiche, tea for two and two bottles of water was pricey. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and we couldn’t fault the service or the food but it did seem expensive and a little soulless.
