Downton Lodge Country B&B

Our room was clean and comfortable and we had a small balcony from where we could sit and enjoy the view across fields to the mouth of the Dart. The breakfast was tailored to what we wanted and was delicious. You will need a car but there is plenty of parking. The hosts were lovely and very helpful with local knowledge. So glad we stayed here, it's a little gem.

Andrew and Martin have created a wonderful, welcoming and relaxed experience in this beautiful and tranquil part of South Devon. Bedding and cleanliness perfect, honesty bar and tea and coffee making facilities in the small lounge outside our room was lovely. Cooked breakfast delicious, fresh coffee, juice and toast with good choice of preserves. But best of all was chatting and hearing about their travels and experiences abroad and in Devon was lovely. We recommend the Maltsters Inn for lovely food (service slow but worth the wait!).

This is our third visit to Downton Lodge, staying in the self catering Barn (although we did have their breakfast on a couple of days). The Barn is beautifully created and provides a well appointed, comfortable living space in the roof of the old barn building, overlooking fields and with views over the Dart valley and to the sea beyond. There are good walks from here to Dartmouth and Dittisham through fields and lanes. Very picturesque views into the Dart valley. Andrew and Martin are welcoming hosts ably assisted by their three lovely hounds! We highly recommend a stay at Downton Lodge.

A Wonderful warm welcome to the lodge from Andrew and Martin. The lodge is in an excellent location for walking and driving too, with a few of Dartmouth’s hill tops . The lodge looks as if it just been decorated as it is spotless . The whole place and gardens are all well maintained . Greeted every morning with a great choice of breakfast. Wonderful hosts who couldn’t have been more helpful. Room was perfect with a nice bathroom with bath. Breakfast was superb. Really enjoyed the location being close to Dartmouth and Dittisham being even closer. Would highly recommend it for those of us who want to be out of town but not too far away from one. Just perfect.

A very comfortable stay in a delightful area. Everything was good but the welcome and attention from hosts, Mark and Andrew was exceptional.

Have just enjoyed an excellent week at Downton Lodge - Seaview Barn. Well equipped, vry clean, comfortable and warm with wonderful views and scenery. Our hosts Andrew & Martin were friendly & professional and Andrew cooks a wonderful breakfast!

Simply the best, hard to add to previous reviewers who have said it all, but a real gem of a place , spotless, everything you could ask for and beautiful people running the place to boot. Thank you Andrew and Martin and hopefully see you again soon

Fabulouse place. Excellent hosts. Lovely clean room, with fabulouse view. Breakfast freshly cooked with great choice. Eight minute ride to Dartmouth. We visited Coleton Fishacre Kingswear (National Trust) and Blackpool sands. The most beautiful beach. Will definitely return.
