Let’s start with, perhaps, the one positive: the location is spectacular. Perfectly isolated, with an amazing view of the sea on the cliff side. That’s why it’s so sad what happened to this place. We stayed here previously a little over 10 years ago in an eco tent. It was great. Bare bones, but great. The tents/resort were destroyed in 2017 and never rebuilt, until a new owner took over. It’s clear this owner wants to turn a quick profit and doesn’t give one s%#t about the island or us travelers that have been coming so long (20 years for me). Don’t expect anyone at the front desk, almost ever, if you have an issue. With that, I’ll recount our experience. We arrived, called the owner, and someone came over to check us in. Here’s where things were off to not a great start. When we stayed here previously, there was someone there all day to check us in. The walk to the tent was treacherous as half the stair lights didn’t work, at all, and it was pitch dark. All 3 beds in the tent were made with sheets. We got one set of sheets in a duffel bag, for the loft, which was extremely hot when we got into the tent and didn’t have much airflow. Since the bed was bigger, these sheets didn’t fit the lower beds. And the mattresses were covered in sand and dirt, so now we had dirty sheets to transport to another bed. Can I just say something about the sanitation of using the same duffel for dirty and clean sheets? And no, we aren’t high maintenance. I’ve stayed at Cinnamon Bay 4 times. Even at Cinnamon Bay campground, the beds were made on arrival, and the bags were for dirty sheets only. The tents are nothing like they used to be. It’s clear they were rebuilt as cheaply as possible. It was literally swaying in the wind. The old ones were totally solid. It was much hotter, maybe due to them having a solid wood roof instead of the canvas roofs (which provided light during the day. Instead of decking, they have plywood floors which can’t be cleaned as easily and absorb everything that’s spilled on them. The sink was filthy from previous guests. The patio door was misfit and hard to open and close. I could go on. These were dingier, cheaper, hotter versions of the tents we’d stayed in. And the wood stairway into the place was rotting. We couldn’t sleep in the heat and our sheets were filthy. So we decided to leave and got the last room on the island at great expense, and an Airbnb for the rest of the trip, which was great. This is such a sad review to post, as this was such a cool spot to stay, but I cannot recommend it. They’re going to have to make major changes or they won’t last.
