Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion

This place is magical and amazing. To get it out of the way: I have never been so hot in my life. The amazon is very hot and very humid. With that being said, I don't think you can get a more comfortable way to experience the jungle. We boated to the resort and the grounds were a beautiful nature reserves. Everyone had their own cabana that had an open view of the jungle. Each cabana was open air but enclosed with a very fine mesh. Each room also came with mosquito nets for over the beds. The generator turns off at certain quiet times but housekeeping leaves a lantern in the bathroom for overnight use. Falling asleep to the sounds of the rainforest is wonderful. The staff left us a note with a discounted spa treatment which was so sweet and special. We got "cooling" massages which were lovely - especially in the heat. All meals were provided in the main lodge and three course meals were included with the stay. Even though you can't leave the resort without a boat, you never go hungry with the amount of delicious food they feed you during breakfast, lunch, dinner and daily tea time. At the Eco Center, we learned about the project to preserve the rainforest and were offered enough free excursions to fill our days. We opted for an additional excursion (for a fee) of seeing birds migrate to a natural salt lick early in the morning and I would highly recommended it! Each cohort is assigned a guide and they all seem very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. Alvaro was our guide and he was awesome. All the staff were kind and welcoming. We are still daydreaming of being back at this resort and exploring all it has to offer! Some notable things: Bring cash for tipping at the end of your stay. Bring a headlamp (flashlights are provided, if needed). Wi-Fi is limited to non-existent but it was nice to get away from the phones for a bit! Bring a lot of bug spray. There is a lot of cool wildlife to see!

The lodge was very neat, the cabins were comfortable and the bathrooms and showers worked great. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly, the food was top tier, and the excursions were very informative and well operated. We had Leon as our excursion guide and he was fantastic. He went above and beyond to make sure we were safe, comfortable, learning and having fun. Very knowledgeable guide!

We loved our large comfy cabana where we could enjoy the sights and sounds of the Amazon! The lodge is beautiful and the staff is amazing! They work together to make your experience memorable! Our guide Leon was one of the best we had while traveling in Peru. He obviously loves his job and he is so interesting and enthusiastic! Our dining staff deserve to be mentioned also. Kevin, Abner. Angelo, and David were so kind to us, treating us like royalty at each meal! Janet and Carla were so helpful and friendly too! Thanks to all of you for a wonderful three nights in the Amazon!

Being in the jungle is quite the experience and staying at this resort helped us have a great time. To get it out of the way now, you will never be hotter in your life or sweat more. We stayed in the main cabin and while the rooms were small and only had an open window facing one direction, we were able to sleep through the night while the power was off. The hotel organizes fun excursions to do during the day that are included in the cost. We did lake Sandoval, a night animal watch tour,and the canopy walk. You can opt out of any of them. Our guide was really great. You will feel a bit like you are at summer camp with how structured everything is and the meals but that is part of the experience. Transport from the airport to the hotel was super smooth.

Great place to stay while exploring the Amazon. Service was great! Food was even better than we anticipated. Guides were a wealth of knowledge. Glamping at its finest. The generators are on during limited times of the day so you need to be mindful or when you want to charge devices. Wi-Fi is only available certain times in the main lodge. It was a great balance of off the grid but still being able to connect for us. Don’t let the height of the bridges scare you away. As a girl who is scared of heights, I was still able to make my way across all them and enjoy the views. They have a small gift shop if you’re in a pickle, but make sure to bring all the things you need because it’s tiny.

This place was fantastic, and I wish I had stayed longer. The jungle is a wonderful place and the tours provided give you an opportunity to embrace it close up. The rooms were cabins in the jungle and when you first enter you get that wow feeling. The food was excellent, the service was excellent, the jungle tours were excellent, this place is great place to stay.

Jungle lodge on banks of Rio Madre de Dios. First stop after flying in from UK. Considered staying in Lima before internal flight to Puerto de Maldonado but decided to condense all flights into one day from UK and glad we did. Collection of jungle lodges surrounding the central Casa grande where the restaurant is located. The lodges are very in keeping with views into surrounding wildlife. The food is excellent and unique in style using fresh local food. Each day compromised a series of tours either by foot or boat to view the wildlife. Plenty to see including Macaws, Caiman, Tarantulas, Red Howler Monleys amongst others. All groups have dedicated guides, ours was Rene who had plenty of knowledge and the eyes of a hawk to spot anything of interest during the tours. A fantastic three days to start a tour of Peru.

This is an amazing location in the middle of the rainforest. The staff is so competent friendly and eager to help you. The food is a bit unusual and they fry most of the wonderful fish that is available. Be aware that some of the food is very salty. They have boots for you if it rains and umbrellas.

I am still thinking about my stay at Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion. Intro/Transfer/Check-in: Transfer was seamless and professional. Isabel and others [dressed in uniforms, which really made Inkaterra stand out vs the other lodge pickups] were already waiting for me once I touched down in Puerto Maldonado airport. From there we drove about 20 mins to the Inkaterra dock and rode by boat to the lodge. Once at the lodge I was greeted with a cold drink, we discussed logistics, I was introduced to my excursion guide, and was shown to my room. Room: Despite the awesome cabanas, I chose to stay in the main house (room 30) and do not regret it! Pros- proximity to dining area for meals, tea time, etc. so wifi actually worked in my room from time to time. I did not notice any noise issues – things get very quiet after dinnertime, no rainforest sounds either. No need for mosquito net because there were no bugs. Cons- lack of privacy should someone walk past your room during the daytime and your blinds are open. However, this can easily be fixed by putting up a sheer curtain or roping off the hallway area during daytime hours (there is no reason for anyone to walk that way anyway). Excursions: My guide Uriel had the lucky task of dragging me, a NYC-bred scaredy-cat, through all of my excursions. Uriel possesses a wealth of knowledge and thoroughly answered my many questions and I enjoyed our discourse quite a bit - I learned so much not only about the jungle but about an entirely foreign way of life, which certainly broadened my worldview. Uriel was also very patient with my fear of bugs/animals/heights (as earlier mentioned, I am a scaredy-cat!!), and at every step urged me to go at my own pace. The rainforest is awe-inspiring and I am so glad I took the leap to enter… I felt at peace with the surroundings in a way that is difficult to put into words... Lake Sandoval and Canopy Walk are the two main excursions and so 2nts/3 days is ideal amount of time for this lodge. Maybe Inkaterra could also create a ¼ day excursion to look at plants in the wild for those city dwellers that collect houseplants in our concrete apartments 😊 (follow me follow me!). Food: Terrific! For each meal you are given a menu of gourmet dishes to choose from. I am gluten-free, and was touched by the special effort that the kitchen took to craft special breads and other options for me. Wesley was especially attentive, which I appreciated very much. Check-out: Transfer back to the airport was just as professional; the team stays with you (and prints out everyone’s boarding passes!) to help with every possible thing until you are past security. From start to finish, I did not have to think about or worry about a thing. Other: Unsure if I got lucky with the weather, but I did not get bitten.
