We had a spectacular view of volcanoes and sea from our spacious ocean-view suite for a very modest price. Good value. The hotel sorely needs updating, though. The common areas, especially the carpets, are frayed. The window at the end of our floor was replaced by plywood. The bathroom is so dated it's probably impossible to clean properly. The neighborhood is a bit run down, but convenient, as long as climbing a short hill is OK.
With lowered expectations, one could stay here. This place may be under a change of management, so a future visit might be better. There were a few hightlights before the list of nyegatives. Their Pulp Fiction hamburger was excellent, as was their take on lemonade. The use of wood as the central theme in the hotel was a pleasant alternative to the usually sterile interiors of most big box hotels. Hard to identify hotel: The hotel had no sign outside. This is why I believe it is changing hands. In the parking lot, we found the remains of the sign. Parking lot: hard to find the entrance, poorly lit. The directions to the elevator were non-existant. We ended up using a service elevator which brought us to the service area on one of the floors. We finally located a door and ended up in a suite of the hotel's management offices. The offices were closed, but there was one person left chatting on the phone who saw us roaming around, but did nothing to assist us. Room: all the furniture and decor showed some wear and tear. The toilet seat was disintergrating underneath--yuck. The shower head was ancient and was also disintegrating which meant that the water sprayed in all directions, including the floor. Breakfast: cold room, cold eggs, non-working toaster.
I made the reservation through *********** more than two months in advance, using my credit card details. the day before my flight was changed and I sent a message to the hotel requesting early checkin, as I had two children, but I did not receive any response. the contact with the accommodation is terrible. I waited until 15:00 for checkin on time. at the entrance I received the annoying information that they do not accept credit cards, only US dollars or the national currency. I had dollars, exchange made at an official exchange office, valid banknotes and they did not accept my banknotes as they only accepted a specific run of banknotes. my checkin was late, the kids exhausted. the fronteamos had no change for my payment. horrible. very uncomfortable, very embarrassing.
