Golden Green Hotel, Charlotte

Worst customer service I've ever had in my entire life--stayed there before and had made an online reservation for 5 days: when I called to arrange a late check in, desk reservations person was suspicious that I had a reservation (!), acted as if I were bothering her, was impatient and rude, and said they might have a room for me but I would have to come in person to find out, and that if they didn't have one I would need to stay elsewhere. I stayed elsewhere and will never give that place my money again.

Worst water is brown elevator doesn't work key cards never work Staff is rude, very unclean, always shady activity going on in and in the parking garage of hotel. Manager is a racial profiler and judges race instead of treating everyone fairly.

AVOID this hotel!! We arrived about 4:30 p.m. with 2 small suitcases, and it took almost 25 minutes to check in with the single guest clerk I have slight mobility issues, so our room 615 was definitely elevator obligatory. Thrilled to be greeted with “out of order” signs on both elevators. Directed to the service elevator located in the staff area off the lobby : laundry, housekeeping offices, and finally arriving at THE service elevator which is identified with signage stating “For Staff Only” as well as “3 passenger limit.” Got to our room, opened door and found cigarette burns and several permanent stains on the counter of the sink. Broken large window pane, “repaired” with duct tape. By now I was getting freaked out about the place. Wifi required NO password, a first for me after MANY years of hotel visits. There was not even a Gideon Bible . Another first. We rested a bit, then went to go to our car. Service elevator seemed to be out of order. After repeated attempts to summon it, we gave up and walked down the six floors. Kept passing people on their way up. This is not boding well, as we had not brought our luggage up at the time of check in. Collected our car from the free, attached parking DECK with NO VISIBLE SECURITY. Drove to the Ovens/Bojangles complex located “next door,”for a Lewis Black performance, the reason for our visit to Charlotte. As we waited for the show to begin, we evaluated our situation. Post performance we would need to return to the hotel and get ourselves and our luggage up six flights of stairs and leave our car in a less than wonderful parking deck overnight. Decided to book a room elsewhere, just for our peace of mind. And REAL concerns for our and our vehicle’s safety. Not to mention the fairly impossible task of me climbing six flight of steps in the confines of the busily trafficked fire escape route. Could I have done it? Probably, resting frequently. Was it worth the $93 with tax we had spent to lodge here. NOPE!!! Booked online at a far nicer facility, and decided our safety and that of our car was worth the $93 loss. Cannot believe the city of Charlotte permits the conditions at this hotel , and allows it to remain in business. Starting with the ADA requirements, the dreadful conditions should preclude exposing members of the public to lodge here. IMO, a homeless shelter would not be allowed to operate with so many shortcomings.
