Champagne Castle Hotel

Staff were friendly and helpful, views are breathtaking, food was excellent - good variety and quality, without being excessive. May have been out of season, but very few organised activities. Some maintenance is required in various parts - a little tatty. Garden is too much grass - not enough indigenous plants to attract the plentiful birdlife in the area and too many exotic trees spoil the view. Walks are good and well marked mostly. Daily leafblowers in the grounds were very unwelcome. Definitely worth going back. Bar fridges in rooms would be useful for keeping drinks cool.

Yet another wonderful stay at Champagne Castle. Thank you to all the friendly and helpful staff. Scones and tea in the afternoon are a real treat and always something to look forward too. The carvery dinners are delicious and change on a daily basis. Lovely hikes to choose from which can be easy walks or more difficult climbs. Catering for all levels of fitness. A superb hotel and very well run.

A stunning location with views of Cathkin Peak and the surrounding Berg - our family has long-enjoyed the walks, horse-riding, tennis and other activities - and it is great to see these still well-catered for. Various areas were being renovated and upgraded, which is always good to see in a hotel. A wonderful place to stay.

Our home from home. From when we arrived and were greeted by the friendly staff, to the small changes to the menus ( yom), the warm fires on a cool autumn day, the fresh air, the storms and rain during the evening, the views, the spa trea**ents...... As always our stay was fantastic and we cant wait to visit our Sense of Place again.

What a wonderful hotel. The setting is magnificent. Staff are really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a number of hikes in the area. Meals are outstanding with a large variety to meet everyone's tastes. The rooms are large and spacious.

We are regular, very happy visitors to Champagne Castle Hotel, staying in the chalets. The staff are courteous and always available and helpful, and are to be commended. The chalets are very well appointed. For the first time, however, we discovered general maintenance matters that needed attention (Chalet 2): broken crockery, slow run-off in showers, cracked glass hob, water leaking into cupboard under the sink (this was not reported). The matters were promptly resolved whilst we were there, which was gratifying. There was however a sense that staff cleaning up after a stay are not reporting these matters. Overall, still the best place to stay in the Drakensberg, by far. Thank-you for your continued efforts! Yvonne Hide (Perner) and family.

The views are absolutely beautiful. Lovely walks around the hotel grounds too. Zebra, buck, baboons and monkeys. The beds were very comfortable. There was however, a very bad smell of urine in the room coming from the bathroom. The buffet needs attention, for example, roast potatoes and hash browns put into a covered dish where they steam and go soggy. Over all the food was quite good. Waiter staff need training. No welcome and we were asked straight away how we would be paying. Leaning over people to collect plates is not acceptable Booking was made easy by a very efficient lady called Fezeka.

A beautiful setting in the mountains. We have been a few times and enjoy the setting very much. The food was good too. Will definitely go again. The only problem that we had this time and last year was the shower leaking over the floor and some mould on the bathroom roof. Was reported to reception and hopefully action will be taken. There are lots of activities to keep you busy through the day or the option to relax around the pool. The staff are attentive and the hotel is fairly well maintained.

This was a wonderful experience. The food and service were excellent, and the food was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and spacious. Will go there again.
