We booked an overnight stay at the Elyton and we’re looking forward to staying at another Autograph Collection Property as we have enjoyed stay at a few others in the past. We drove all day and we’re envisioning getting to our room and relaxing. Upon arrival we were told that nothing was open in the hotel due to it being Easter. Ok…..not even a hotel bar….no…..nothing. We could get a drink or food. We can understand it was a holiday however, it was not posted online or in the hotel anywhere that would have indicated if you book just know this very important fact. Our room was average at best and we had a corner room with a City view. That’s not saying much seeings how the rooms are well above $200 a night. We were looking forward to breakfast at least. We ordered a Cappuccino and a Latte……this came out as coffees. No where near a specialty coffee unfortunately. Our waiter Skylar was polite when I asked him a few questions about the coffee. He was happy to take a few tips from me in regards to how to make foam for a specialty drink. Their equipment was leaking for him to present specialty coffee drinks and they used “pod” for their Espresso drinks. Hence why our drinks were coffee. We noticed the online menu is not the exact menu presented in The Yard Restaurant. Several items were missing from the in house menu. My husband ordered the Smoked Salmon Toast….we were told….that’s the only thing we are out of. He then order the Elyon Breakfast instead. I ordered the Lemon Poppyseed Ricotta Pancakes with a Bluebery Compote and were looking forward to having them. Moments later Skylar had to inform me that they didn’t have them. They had Chocolate Chip Pancakes if I wanted those…..well no….I’m not a 10 year old at IHOP here. I reordered just the plain ole Continental Breakfast. Yogurt Parfait with Blueberries (how about Blueberry Pancakes in instead of Chocolate Chip?) half a Grapefruit and a Croissant. I thought what could go wrong with a Continental Breakfast….well things look pretty good except the Croissant was not there and was replaced with what I was told was a Catfish Head Biscuit. This thing was big for sure…..not light and airy as a Croissant but very heavy and tasteless. No thanks….my husband tried it and he agreed. He enjoyed his 2eggs/hash browns with bacon and toast. We did have the staff let us know at every turn during our disappointment if stay that Jessica (Hotel Manager) was struggling to keep up with the hotel in every area. The staff was always kind/friendly and had a quick smile. They must really like Jessica because they are always trying to cover for her and her lack of skills in managing a Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection Hotel. We absolutely wasted our stay and hard earned American Express benefit on this stay :-(
This Holiday Inn Express was able to check us in at 11am when we arrived instead of the usual 3pm. This is a fairly new hotel . . . modern, spotless, well-lit lobby and initially everything seemed to work as it should. Then lots of little things went awry (locked out of our room during our 5-nite stay, flickering lamp, not all breakfast food available, mini-frig froze our food, towels not available, trash not emptied), though everything except breakfast was corrected when the front desk was notified. Receptionist Jennifer was particularly helpful . . . a model of professionalism, smarts and courtesy. Our main disappointment was the poor lighting in the room which seems to be the way at most hotels. Still, the location is great . . . just off I-65, 15 minutes from downtown and the staff helpful. And the brightly lit breakfast area became a perfect spot for late afternoon Scrabble games. We would stay here again.
I had a work trip and have never been to Alabama...I picked this DoubleTree based on being a loyal Hilton member and reviews. That being said, this has been one of my favorite stays. Rooms are clean, pool is a bonus, gym is nice, bed is comfortable, breakfast is delicious, and your drinks will not disappoint (thanks to my new favorite bartender, Kim). I travel quite a bit for work, but I feel the friendliness and quality is held to a very high standard and I understand why they are always booked and sadly, I couldn't get an upgraded room. I met so many other professionals working for the company I was traveling to and they all told me it's the only place they stay when they travel to HQ. That being said, stay and you won't be disappointed...they care about the customer experience and take feedback seriously.
I am usually pretty easing going when it comes to reviews. I booked this room based of the name Tapestry. I love some other in the area but decided to try The Kelly. Never again. First, Staff were amazing and that’s it. Richardo and James. Room: 1207 Very dirty on check in. See photos. Bottled Waters had been refilled and top screwed on. Not fresh and I was just floored that housekeeping would do this. Floor in the bathroom was so sticky and not clean. The shower had mold. Towels were dirty. The bed was dirty. I called and James sent housekeeping up to change the sheets. She didn’t touch the duvet. Which I think had feces on it. Idk. The phone didn’t work. The shower was room temp and it was awful. I just wanted a hot shower. I ran it too for a while. The bed and mattress is hard as a rock. I came home with my pillows to find a roach on one of my pillows. The hotel is old and not remodeled. Given it is a very very old building Hilton has put bandaids on so much from lights to fixtures and paint. Carpet and elevators disgusting and sticky and dirty. Noise! Awful. Multiple train tracks on one window side. The other windows constant drag racing at all hours of the night. Crappy night sleep. Bar: The wine was fine. Menu looked not appetizing at all. I ate elsewhere. Hilton needs to figure this out. Doing an injustice to its employees and hotel guests.
Great location not too far from the major freeways and close to eateries. I could park my U-Haul in the back near the pool and didn't have to worry about anyone messing with my car. The staff was friendly the only drawback was the bathroom wasn't cleaned upon checking into the room. The toilet was not flushed and there was hair on one of my towels that was hung up.
224TravelerWe were in the initial room maybe 10 minutes before we discovered the commode wouldn't flush, apparently, for the previous occupants. A little surprise was left for us in the commode. I tried to clear it but it was beyond hope without a plunger. I didn't want to flood the floor. So I left it. The front desk was nice enough and able to swap us to a room down the hall with a door that announced our arrival and departure with every opening. A good bit of WD40 would have alleviated that a good bit. Stopped at a nearby Buc-ees, grabbed some barbecue sandwiches. The room's microwave plate wouldn't turn. Slept OK. Looked forward to a bit of free breakfast but found it to be scarce. Cook staff stood by and watched while you picked through empty bins of hot steam. I did score a piece of sausage and a roadkill egg that could actually pass for an omelet having been run over so many times. I say that because it tasted similar to what a tire may taste like. This ”establishment” was on the initial leg of a round trip. We did not stay here on the return. We will not stay here again. I gave it a 2 star because the roof didn't leak. But then again - it didn't rain.
KKathryn MThis was the second time we've stayed at this hotel. I love it. Comfy and clean and staff is wonderful including Johnnie Murray, DeKiecia Frizzle, Kymone at the front desk and Gloria in housekeeping. Highly recommend. Also love the ravine from street drainage in the back of the hotel. Very peaceful. :-)
I chose this facility due to proximity to the airport and shuttle service from the airport. Even though it was listed as a service, I was not able to get a shuttle but fortunately was able to get a rental car. It would not be safe to try to walk from the airport. In general, the hotel was not as clean as I would expect for a Ramada. The shower drained very poorly and I stood in water. The shower curtain let water out onto the bathroom floor even though I felt it was pulled all the way to the front and back. The floor had water all across it and I used the towels to dry most of it.
RRickie HThe room was clean, but I booked for 2 adults 1 child. There was only towels for 2 people. Brought leftovers back to room from dinner to eat for lunch the next day. That was when I realized there was no microwave in the room--no coffee maker either. No coffee in the lobby. Breakfast was milk, raisin bran cereal. There was nasty tasting coffee and some juice in the machine. But the warming tray was empty, there was a pancake maker but no batter. No muffins-just bread to make toast. We normally would not stay somewhere like this, but it was during Motion and most hotels were already booked.
