Sundara by Mosvold

We live this year at a villa near Sundara and simply did not have space for our five guests (two adults, three teenagers) who came to visit us here in late March, so we got a good deal at Sundara instead. It is a beautiful place (we have stayed there before, so we know first-hand). The manager Hasan and his whole team are superattentive. The rooms are fabulous, and the boutique-style setting, with only nine bedrooms in all, is gorgeous. The pool is nice, and the beach right next to the hotel gardens is lovely, with fine-grained sand. The food -- Sri Lankan and Continental -- must be among the best in all of Sri Lanka. Our friends were extremely well taken care of. The hotel also helps set up sightseeing tours and transportation to Galle and other nearby destinations. We wholeheartedly recommend the place!

Absolutely gorgeous and peaceful place with a spectacular view of the sea. Ideal for a relaxed getaway. Staff very courteous and willing to help always with a smile with any requests. Madu river safari was fantastic. Thanks so much for yr kind hospitality. Enjoyed our stay very much.

We had an amazing time at Sundara by Mosvold during our stay there with friends from Mar 1 - 7 , 2022. This resort was very professionally run but with all the comfort and warmth. We were particularly impressed with the reception accorded to us by Dilruksha. Resort has a quiet and clean beach. Swimming pool was well maintained. We all were wined and dined well by Hassan and Issac who were always cheerful. Will return to this place and resort soon with more family and friends.

The service staff at this place were incredible however, it is advertised on *********** as a 5 star accommodation, sadly it is not. I had some very frustrating and stressful emails from the management before I arrived, I had given 7 days notice to cancel one night but they insisted on charging me, they also tried to charge (yet not tell me) an additional $10 for a covid test for my elderly mother who was very ill. Trying to cash in on a difficult situation was not appreciated. The beach is lovely although you can't really swim in the sea as the tides are a little strong and there is a warning sign. The food was ok, the accommodation although clean, lacked the usual 5* items and the room and bathroom was a little tired.. I feel bad writing this as I know the Sri Lankan tourist industry has suffered badly, but I do think, had the management been a little more considerate and less underhand our stay would have been a lot more comfortable. On a positive note, the service staff really were exceptional and tried to make our stay as lovely as possible. The place itself has a very chilled out vibe which was great and much needed.

 I stayed here for two nights at the end of my trip for a final chance of some much needed rest and relaxation, without any plans other than to enjoy this stunning hotel and it’s facilities for 48 hours. Looks like I got exactly what I was after and then some. This perfectly manicured estate is great for those who are looking for that subtle refinement in the most picturesque of settings. I found the room rates to be extremely good value considering the level of property, service and rooms available. The moment you step foot on the premise you know you’re in for something rather special, with the beautiful entrance garden with fishes and full of colourful wild exotic flowers throughout. The lobby is traditional yet elegant having unique local art pieces to marvel (my favourite being the masked sculptures by the entrance) with views to the star attraction the substantial green gardens with large swathing palm trees that Sri Lanka is so famous for and the most inviting pool taking center stage. The cute little outdoor dining spot has so many options yo choose from eastern to western, I tried a lot of the dishes and all very tasty, with the most notable for me being the tiger prawns! What makes this place so special is the tranquility and privacy you get from staying here and the wonderfully friendly staff who are at your beckoning call whenever needed, without being intrusive. I even asked for king coconuts and they got them specially delivered in for me, just to make sure I was happy. Also try the mango and pineapple juice by the pool, perfectly chilled and all natural, so refreshing on those hot days. All the staff are great, Ishaan in particular though I really gelled with, he was super friendly and was always up for a chat as I was travelling solo, he even offered to take some pics for me, made me feel right at home. My room was spacious with gorgeous views to the pool and sea, the sunsets right on your doorstep, they are some of the the most incredible I’ve ever come across on my travels, I’ve attached some pics to show you what I mean. The upstairs seating area is also another beautifully designed space curated to perfection and great for some nice pics! In fact the whole premise has ample opportunities for those perfect instagram worthy shots if you wish to do so! If you’re after that top notch boutique hotel experience, with traditional Srilanka charm, hospitality and excellent food then look no further! I was very sad to say goodbye to Sandara, but I’ll certainly be returning for longer next time too!!

It’s a boutique hotel with 8 villas inside, that’s why you can feel very private experience. Everyone is caring about your comfort. ROOMS: the hotel offers for the guests different types of rooms. We’ve chosen a garden villa with a small private garden. The room itself is very spacious, bathroom with a shower as well. There are very comfortable bed, TV, fridge, safe and a table inside the room. A teapot, coffee and teabags are provided as well. Slippers and bathrobes are also provided for guests by a request. There is no full-hight mirror in the room, I’d suggest to add it to the interior. LOCATION: 2h drive from the airport, direct access to the clean sandy beach. Sunset view. There is a village in a 15min walking distance with a grocery store, liquor store and bank. FOOD: excellent breakfast is included: fruits, and fresh juice, bread, eggs any style with veggies and sausages, avocado toast with Benedict egg, porridge or granola - you can definitely find anything you want. There are also vegetarian options. Tasty coffee. Lunch and dinner are serving in an a-la carte menu: traditional Indian & Sri Lanka dishes, soups & salads, pasta, burgers and steaks, seafood - good variety for everyday. Everything is very tasty, good quality of products, big portions. And one more benefit: you can enjoy your meal with an excellent view on the sea and a sunset. There are beer, different wine (by bottle) and good cocktails ($7-8). FACILITIES: swimming pool, fast wi-fi, drinking water. Massage with a sea view is available by request. If you want to visit some excursions/shops or places, it’s possible to book it on site. BEACH: clean beach with nobody else there! There is a beach zone in front of the hotel. Sun beds and beach towels are provided. There is enough space on the beach to be alone in your area without other people. TRANSFER: you can request very comfortable transfer from the airport for $125, bottled water and wi-fi are included STAFF: very polite, smiley and really helpful, so friendly atmosphere surrounded us during our vacation. Hassan is very attentive - it was so nice to feel his care. WHAT TO IMPROVE: I’d advise the staff to think about possibility to make this hotel adults only :)

This blissful boutique hotel is one of my favourite spots in Sri Lanka. Been lucky to have been here four times. Great place to soothe your soul with the lush surroundings and pristine beachfront. Each of the 8 rooms have their own charm with a well designed balance of privacy and shared spaces. The attentive service with a smile from the staff is impeccable. The food is so fresh and delicious, you won’t want to leave the property. Highly recommend trying the Sri Lankan breakfast, prawn curry and grilled bbq. Thank you to the Sundara team for making each of my stays special - can’t wait to be back again to visit this exquisite property soon!

I travelled to Sri Lanka for january sun&beach. I stayed on the south coast in few places and Sundara by Mosvold was the best one. First, because we had a perfect long and empty beach in front of this Boutique resort and few other km of beachs to walk saftely left and right; besides, just on the house beach the ocean is quite affordable to swim and a quard men watch over all the time the guests. I point out that on south coast of Sri Lanka is very difficult to find places to swim without danger of strong ocean waves. We had the Deluxe sea vie room on the first floor of the house and was a beautiful large room with a lovely view. In fact all around the views are iconique. Maybe some mirros in the rooms are already added. You do not have something to do around in the village so very important to have the lunch and the dinner inhouse and to have the kitchen a la carte available all the time. The people are very kind and available to offer a discret and elegant atmosphere. We went half a day in a trip to close so called atractions ( Geoffrey Bawa house, pupets museum, moon stone mine and turtle farm) but the rest of the four days we enjoy the the place of Sundara by Mosvold and long walkings to Balapitya beachs. My advice is to forget about Yala and Bundala safari that are over over estimated and waste of the time( crowded, tiring with crazy driving) and enjoy the peacefulness of such a place to a corect price( at least so far) for what you get.

Beautiful. Magical. Peaceful. Serenity. All the nicest sweetest memories you can ever build you will here. The staff is more than attentive and accommodating. This resort is truly a hidden gem and I kinda want it to stay this way for selfish reasons. Its beauty cannot be tainted. Extremely small resort with a 2 bd private villa with its own pool and 5 other guest rooms in the main building. Every room is stunning and spotless. Menu service for all meals. Drinks available upon request. You will never find a moment of wanting as someone is always around waiting to take care of you. We spent the last 3 days in Sri Lanka here and what a way to end a magical trip. Did not want to leave, as they treated us like family and this was our home. Food is exceptional at every meal. Pool is perfect. Beach is clean and not busy with captivating views. You provided us with an unforgettable experience and we can’t wait to be back.
