Situated in the tea country of Sri Lanka, you drive down a small road with local houses and then come to the beautifully landscaped Thotalaga, which is perched on a hill with a perfect unobstructed view. The team at Thotalaga have written the book on anticipatory service! It was raining for our tour of the tea factory - rain jackets, umbrellas and waters were awaiting us. It was chilly and a chance of rain to see the sunrise at Lipton’s seat - this time, we were also sent with blankets and served hot coffee and tea before our journey (properly, sitting down w the good china). And meals were so well done! After much Sri Lankan food it was nice to have a steak option for dinner, and their beef tenderloin did not disappoint. With just 7 rooms, the hotel is cozy. We left feeling well taken care of; individually looked after. They have done a wonderful job keeping a delightful staff who truly seek to serve. Kudos to them for creating such an environment.

I can only agree with previous reviewers. This is an exceptional hotel with the most stunning outlook. A perfect place to relax/ refresh and recharge. Set within tea plantations and a rural village you feel like you are in Sri Lanka and not a tourist destination. The breakfasts were sublime.

What an amazing hotel in an incredible setting. The views from the verandah make you feel like you are on top of the world. The team led by the incredibly attentive and professional general manager is friendly, professional and provides the best service possible. The Lipton Suite is superb and the whole hotel is spotless. Lots of little details like the tuk tuk ride up to Lipton seat, the high tea on the terrace, the delicious food and the comfortable and spotless house make this one of a kind stay. You will not regret coming to this corner of paradise! Thank you to the team at Thotalagala

Thotalagala is a historic house located in a beautiful landscape, with only some few individually designed rooms. We had a full inclusive, which even included a trip with a tuk-tuk up to Liptons Seats climing up a narrow street through the tea plantations. We had a beautiful but too short time there with top and very personal service. Thank you the entire team of Thotalagala, who surprised us with a cake celebrating our 40th anniversary and making our stay so memorable. Marcel & Nelida

The best place ever. From the moment you arrive to your departure at Thotalagala you are treated like royalty. The place is exquisite and quiet with a beautiful view overlooking the valley all the way to Yala and the coast. A beautiful garden with an infinity pool filled with clean spring water from the mountain is a beautiful surrounding to this exclusive place that was once the home of a tea plantage owner. The service is magnificent - especially Malshan who was very attentive and made us feel special. And to top it all, the food is just amazing - with a new mouthwatering menu everyday. Put Thotalagala on your bucket list and you will get an experience of a lifetime.

My wife and I stayed for two nights during our honeymoon and it was an incredible few days. The food really was exceptional, the service and attention to detail was above and beyond all expectations. Rooms were spacious and clean and even when the weather wasn’t perfect, we could sit in the comfy drawing room by the fire. Would very much recommend!

This place was absolutely beautiful! From the welcome to the waving goodbye as we left we felt so cared for! They have thought of everything and are so lovely to be around! We had a wonderful time enjoying the property going via tuk tuk to Liptons seat and they took care of it all! I could not ask for a better place to stay! It was so dreamy!

Nothing quite prepares you for the Thotalangala experience! From the moment you sweep up the concealed driveway all your senses go into overdrive - the exquisite gardens, the understated grandeur of the bungalow, the playful monkeys, the position on the side of a valley with the most incredible views right down to the south coast and the reception from the staff. Over the coming days the exceptional food, wonderful local walks through the tea plantations and that incredibly positioned swimming pool served to make Thotalangala our favourite stay in Sri Lanka. Thank you to all the staff who looked after us so well but particularly Manjula and Mainala. You treated us like royalty!

Beautifully designed hotel and rooms, with spectacular gardens and panaramic views of the valley and tea country. Exceptional service from friendly and attentive staff. Fantastic, high quality food menu. Close proximity to tea plantations and places of interest. Would highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay at
