Because in August local authorities switch off water in Abakan - not only hot one but also cold one. I mean, totally (that was our case). They call it pre-winter-season maintenance. Very funny (for them, not for hotel guests). As far as cold water is concerned, it's usually missing for one day but with hot one the pause may take a week. The hotel has boilers in some (in some!) rooms so lucky ones may still enjoy "normal" conditions but others would face a real challenge. Everybody, however, will have to survive with no water at all for a day. Well, I mean the staff would provide you with a plastic bucket to fill it in in advance so no worries - no problem to wash your hands and face, to brush your teeth or to pee and even poo (at your own discretion). Otherwise the hotel is not that bad and is definitely the best in town. Just try to enquire with them if that Day of Doom is coming (and when) but be ready that they will hardly give you a corresponding discount. Long live Abakan!
