Yanghsuo Yunshe Mountain GuestHouse

This is a wonderful family run guesthouse, where you can enjoy peace away from the hustle of Xingping Old Town. Differently from other types of accommodation we have seen in Dahe Bei village, this guesthouse is a hidden gem with charme and character. The food was excellent and abundant, freshly cooked by the owner herself. The owner picked us up from the Dahe Bei ferry dock, organised an electric moped rental in Dahe Bei (we didn't see many on that side of the river) and gave us plenty of tips and suggestions for where to go and what to do around there, including a sunrise hike to a nearby mountain that you can reach directly from the guesthouse - if you're into hiking (it's a 1h walk uphill through pomelo and orange orchards, followed by a series of staircases), it's a great spot, as we found only a few photographers when we got up there. The ginger cat and the house dog are cute and extremely friendly, adding to the overall wonderful atmosphere. Our room was spacious and clean, with plenty of hot water for showers after a day of hiking or driving around to see the surroundings. If we were to travel again in this area, we would definitely go back. Highly recommended!

One of the best home stays I’ve stayed in for a while! The owners are so welcoming and the wife went out of her way to make me lovely food, drive me down to the ferry crossing and offer me advice for local hikes. This is perfect for people who want to get away from the busy and touristy old town. It’s tucked away on the side of a mountain with gorgeous views of the Li river. There is also an incredible hike up Damian mountain, built by the owners themselves! The owners will give you really easy instructions to reach the steps that take you up to the platform at the top. It’s also on the correct side of the river for the much busier Xianggong sightseeing platform. Here are a few things to note: - This is not close to anything else and will require you to get a ferry from Xingping old town for 5 yuan and pay someone to drive you up the mountain to the home stay - Alternatively you can walk up in about 40 mins which is a very peaceful. - They have some really friendly pets, a cat and 2 dogs. But just be aware if you’re not an animal person, but the dog will lead you up part of the path for the hike up Damian mountain!

I rarely write reviews, but felt like I had to talk about what a magical experience I had at Yunshe. I stayed for three nights during the off-season, and was looking for a peaceful getaway with easy access to nature and a minimum of tourist traps. That’s exactly what I got and more — the hotel owner (who grew up nearby) was extremely gracious and generous, moving me into a larger room on the lower floor to accommodate my heavy luggage. She also gave me tips on how to get around Xingping as well as instructions for trails to the nearby Damian Mountain and a Buddhist temple built into the side of a cliff. The view from the hotel veranda is stunning, perfect for reading a book or chatting with other guests, depending on your mood. It’s a true escape from city life without having to give up comforts like espresso drinks. Just be aware that it is farther from Xingping than other hotels (which is the point), so plan your transportation accordingly. Five stars for the hotel’s dog, too, who led me up the mountain for a sunrise hike (photos not shown here).

We had an amazing stay in this guesthouse. The pictures are completely truthful and the vista from the house is spectacular. The owner and her husband are lovely people and made our stay very comfortable. The food was delicious and we kept being fed fresh fruits from the area. One of the most famous hikes starts a few meters from their house which is very convenient. Would definitely stay again if back in Xinping.

The location is amazing, really far to the city and quite difficult to reach, so you will be out of the world while there, keep that in mind when you make the reservation, but the owner did her best to provide all the services and the info of the area even if she didn’t speak English.  I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for wild nature and some relax time.  All the food was also really really good.

The staff took such good care of us, with tea always available and delicious meals planned around our schedules. The owner offered to pick us up locally or take us on hikes if they were free. The room was itself warm and clean. And the location, high up in the hills, was breathtaking. It is a bit remote though, so it’s a good idea to discuss transportation with the owner ahead of time. If you’re adventurous, there’s a trail up to DaMian Mountain directly next to the place. There’s also an easier hike through citrus orchards that follows the river. Bonus was the cute and friendly dog that loved getting pets and would guide you along trails!
