We loved the Duke Hotel. The staff, such as reception folks Sharon, Jason, Raul and Sharlon were just so professional, helpful and friendly ... actually ... all the staff. We didn't catch all their names, but the breakfast servers and room attendants - everyone! This hotel gives knowledgeable advice on local buses to interesting villages and beaches, can assist with obtaining ferry tickets, and organize taxis etc. BTW, the breakfast selection was abundant and colourful. I thoroughly recommend The Duke!

Starting with the information - we stayed at So City as a young couple (who arent particularly into nightclubs/bars) to see Matla for the first time over a week. I have given this a 'benefit-of-the-doubt' rating due to the hotel being incredibly new. We picked So City Hotel because of the value, it was incredibly well priced. I'd imagine this is a strategy due to it being so new but it was certainly well worth the price we paid. On to the hotel as a whole - I feel this is definitely aimed toward capturing people coming to Malta for some night life. Its positioned so that no more than 10 seconds from leaving the lobby, you can be in a bar, and their are some nice bars surrounding. That said, we werent there for that - but this location also meant that finding an evening meal, or a quick early night drink was incredibly easy. Exploring the island was also very easy from here, Valletta was a very short journey, and as we had opted to rent a car, there was a carpark about 5 minutes walk away (Pengardens) which is reasonably priced for over night parking, and we never struggled for a space. The room was very comfortable, and the mattress was perfect and bedding very soft and comfortable. Our upgraded room was also incredibly spacious. The theming is a nice touch and makes the room a bit more characterful and individual. Staying on the 7th floor, there was minimal noise at night, altough id be concerned if we needed to keep the window open.... The black out curtains were also amazing for keep the room dark for a little bit of extra sleep. Constructive criticism for the room would be: The shower tempurture is difficult - the hottest setting is insanely hot (my other half loves hot showers but this was too much for her also) and it wouldnt go cold, just cooler, it also seemed to get colder through out the shower and you found yourself adjusting. There is not a lot of storage at all for longer stays. This is perhaps a by product of it feeling aimed towards 'nightlifers' who might stop 3 nights or so. I would perhaps ask reception for additional hangers if you have plenty of clothes for a longer stay. The mini fridge, altough useful, is not big enough to put larger water bottles in, which can be annoying. The aircon unit is situated in a place which means it blows directly at the bed. I tried to play with the control but there was no way to adjust it that I could find. Im trying to cool the room, not refridgerate myself. The timer on the aircon also didnt seem to work, so setting it the blow for 30 mins whilst i went to sleep just didnt seem to work. The TV is not a full smartTV which is a shame. Just channels and an internet browser, which are never nice to navigate around.... On to other notes: Breakfast is just what you need. Its not an all out buffett where there is everything you could dream of, but there is more than enough and a few items cycle so you can expect a slightly different breakfast each morning. Excellent in every way! This newly built boutique hotel is located in the quaint village of Xaghra. It is beautifully set in a maltese type of a square. As soon as you step in you'll feel that joy of welcome! Not just a typical one. Receptionists will go that extra mile to help as well as they are highly good mannered and courtious. Beautifully decorated with spacious rooms throughout. Lovely decorated inside which will give you the needed rest. It is well clean and tidy. Breakfast is top! Whatever you're up to they provide! Everything is cooked on time and hence fresh and crispy. Hats off to the kitchen staff and restaurant staff. Highly recommended and this for sure will not be my first time there. Will sure return. Thank you Alejandro and Carol and the maltese receptionist which I can't remember his name along with the other front office staff. You're all a Gem and a credit to the hotel. Chapeau!

We were visiting family in the area and had heard great things about this hotel in its previous incarnation as The Dolmen. We were looking forward to staying, but despite a promising start (smooth check in and delicious cookies on arrival), a few things did disappoint. We had paid for a standard room, which was on the second floor. While the room itself was nice enough, the view from the balcony was of a service area, brick wall fire assembly point and maintenance hub, where workmen were milling about constantly in front of our terrace. We asked straight away if we could pay to upgrade to a higher floor or even a sea view, but were told the hotel was completely full. We found this hard to believe in May and outside of the school holidays. The room was as described - standard - but we felt a few small tweaks could have made all the difference. There were 8 hangers in the wardrobe, which is nowhere near enough for a couple. There was also a separate hanging rail in the room, but no extra hangers, so the rail was basically useless. The space would have been better used for a chest of drawers, especially as the bedside cabinets were just tables and had no storage whatsoever. There was also no mirror above the dressing table in the living area, and no hooks either on the back of the door or on any of the wall space for a jacket/robe etc. We had to request extra pillows as only two were provided with no spares in the wardrobe as you’d expect. The bathroom was nice, and the shower was lovely, but there was only a tiny amount of space around the sink for toiletries, despite there being loads of empty space underneath. An additional shelf or unit would have been really useful and would have meant we didn’t have to leave our full toilet bags on the floor. We tried to book a late check out as our flight home wasn’t until the evening, but were told it couldn’t be confirmed either way until after 8am on the day of departure, so we basically had to be up and ready for an 11am check out anyway just in case. We’ve never experienced this before as usually you can pay to book this in advance. Again, in May and outside of the school holidays we weren’t sure why this was a problem. Overall, the hotel has promise, and we could see that when finished the beach and spa areas will be lovely. The pools were great, as were the Azure (buffet) and Ombré (bistro) restaurants. The best breakfast selection we’ve seen in a long while! It would be good to see these small issues addressed before the hotel is fully open later in the summer as its location is great and we would like to come back.

We booked the penthouse room to have a terrace where one can enjoy the view with a cup of tea or a glass of wine Unfortunately the terrace has a very high wall and once you sit down the view succumbs to a horrendous wall. We had issues with the tv as it kept going out of the programm and we couldn’t watch anything. We do call and fair enough a very polite lady came to check the issue, she couldn’t at first and after 15 odd minutes she managed although she told us it could be a faulty box. After she left the same thing happened , we didn’t call again as she had to come back from another town and as we were there just for a day we opted not to. When we returned after a lovely and enjoyable dinner at the Rendezvous restaurant and went to sleep we noticed that 3 flood lights were left on all night and light was coming in the room as the curtains rail was around 10cm away from the wall. As I am a light sleeper I couldn’t sleep at all. Anyway in the morning we went down to a most enjoyable breakfast and went to pay for the night we spent . I never complained but I did tell the receptionist about the tv problem and I mentioned it so the next person won’t have the same issues. I sent an email pin pointing the issues we had , I never asked either for a discount or my money back. All I did raise the issues as they were easy to solve , and if they did they wouldn’t have to face unhappy clients. Well well all hell broke lose as all excuses under the sun came poring down, such as the floodlights have been put up just three weeks ago….. the horrendous wall is what it is and nothing can do about it as it’s an old wall … Then a phone came and I was told I was imagining things by this fine lady on the other side of the phone, now that’s customer care at it’s best . If she had the time to notice that i wasn’t asking for any money back then she wouldn’t have been so offensive and so defensive. Sorry Quant but the issues are easily tend to The terrace should have an elevated area where one can sit and enjoy the weather and the views and the light from the flood lights can easily be solved by fixing the curtain further closer to the wall . This will prevent the amount of light going in

Having stayed in several hotels in the area (Dolmen, Seaview, Topaz), I decided to go for the closest to the action for my latest trip. I believe the Primera Hotel has been undergoing upgrades since COVID. The results of these are visible in some areas and in others there is work to be done. All the staff were superb. Friendly, helpful and welcoming. I didn't catch many names, but Njelli??Nellie?? on reception, Clayton night reception, were great. Housekeeping were also polite and very friendly. The room, on the second floor, was quite large and comfortable. The furniture (wardrobes, drawers, bedside cabinets and fridge all looked brand new. The bed was two fairly basic metal frames with relatively poor mattresses, which had very stiff edges so there was no chance of a spread across the two singles to treat as a double bed. The bathroom was again a good size and was clean with what looked like fairly new tiling. The only downside of the bathroom was the ridiculous shower cubicle with doors that don't roll on the runners but must be almost picked up and put into place when showering. The roof terrace again looks as though it has been recently renovated and was a really surprising treat. Wonderfully clean and tidy. Plenty of loungers and a pool that is big enough to have a cooling dip when the sun gets a little hot. A TV plays tranquil music and WC/changing facilities were a nice touch. I would guess there is enough space for a small bar or a pool table up there if the owners were so inclined. I watched the Saturday of the Malta airshow display with a great view over St. Pauls bay. Such a shame that the Sunday was canceled due to the high winds. The location can not be beaten. So many bars and restaurants are within a few minutes (in some cases seconds) walk. Less than a hundred yards to the promenade beach and swimming. All in all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, on the understanding that The Primera is not perfect but I believe they are working to get there. I for one will be back. Many thanks

My friend and I were guests at the Bora Bora hotel from the 16th June 2022 until the 20th June 2022 for the DLT MALTA event. Upon arrival we were greeted by a queue outside that lead onto the street. Once at the desk we were told that we needed to pay an ”echo charge” for the duration of our stay. When they took the payment, we were told that our room was not ready as cleaning was being underdone, but little did we know that our rooms would not be ready for a further 6 hours. We were hot, dehydrated and exhausted. We missed out on over half of our day due to the un-helpful reception staff negligence. I suffer from low blood pressure and I needed to rest for a while, but instead I was completely ignored by the curly, dark haired receptionist despite asking for pain killers for my migraine due to the stress that was caused by the hotel. It took me having to wait outside of our room until the cleaner came to open the door for me. When the cleaner arrived she was livid at the fact that our room had been ready for several hours but the reception staff downstairs were communicating something different. The wait time became so bad that a member of staff from Pollen decided to offer us his room just so that we could lay our heads for a short while. I have NEVER experienced anything like this in my life on holiday and I will be making a formal complaint on every single platform that I can about my experience at Bora Bora hotel. Please may I add that we were also charged for ice when we requested it at the hotel and when we asked for more tea bags, we were told that we were to use the ones that were given to us on the first day of arrival. Throughout my entire stay at this hotel, I did not feel like I was on holiday.
