We adored this hotel. It was both gorgeous and historic as well as being perfectly located within the old town along the river which afforded us beautiful views from our rooms. A true grand dame. The hotel staff were efficient, helpful and kind. Kudos and thank you to each of them. Breakfast was great and the staff most helpful in determining which items might contain certain nuts. The bar in the hotel was excellent with outstanding service. The rooms were nicely appointed and the beds comfortable, affording each of us a good night's sleep. The only caveat: the bathrooms were quite small, although not unexpected in a hotel of this era. Loved it here and highly recommend.

The front desk staff are amazing and truly helpful. Breakfast is very good and caters well to special dietary requirements. However, the room was basic. The primary issue was the extremely poor hygiene standards in the room, with thick layers of dirt and dust everywhere, as shown in the photos. The mattress was thin and uncomfortable. Additionally, the furniture and fixtures were old and damaged. There was no complimentary water, and the tea bags and milk were not replaced. Amenities were available upon request only, and there was no fridge or safe. Overall, it was poor value for money.
he apartment turned out to be better than expected, the only problem being location. When we booked we weren’t too worried about location as we have a car to get into town centre – in reality parking anywhere near the town centre is a nightmare for tourists. You need a parking app on your phone and also need to understand Swedish (which we don’t). In the end we returned to the apartment and took a bus instead – the number 6 bus stops around 400 metres away. The apartment block looks fairly new and there is some private parking available outside, although not one for every apartment and not bookable. Loads of space for pushbikes. The common areas inside the building are clean and tidy, a guest laundry is available. Our room was slightly bigger than expected, reasonable cooking facilities and a well designed bathroom to maximise available space. Overall a good stay, but if you’re going to centrum don’t even think about taking a car unless you understand the process or Swedish.
The Arenahotellet is an ideal spot for travelers wanting to discover the city. Visitors to Uppsala will find that the Arenahotellet is a fantastic accommodation choice. Boasting a convenient location, the hotel is just 4km from Central Station Uppsala and 38km from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. The nearby area boasts an abundance of attractions including Fågeldamm, Gränby ishallar, C-hallen. and Vaksala Church. At the end of a busy day, travelers can unwind and relax in the hotel or go out and enjoy the city.
Hotel was generally very good. Staff in the hotel were very nice and kind. The room was quite calm. It's good for the rest. Near the hotel is a fuel station and a lot of shopping centres. For sure, I will come back to this hotel during my next trip to Uppsala.
I went to Uppsala with my son to attend a seminar. Sweden was cold in March but the hotel staff at Akademihotellet were exceptionally warm. I would like to thank Jessica and Linnea for being so approachable and helpful. The twin room I booked was cozy and had enough space for a big luggage and smaller handcarry luggage. The room was warm and I loved the heater in the bathroom. The hotel was very near the Uppsala University where I had my seminar. A stone’s throw away is the very interesting bookstore, the Antikvariat Thomas Andersson whose owner is very friendly and a storehouse of knowledge. My son and I loved the pantry which was accessible 24 hours and had a coffee/hot chocolate machine and biscuits, as well as still water and sparkling water. The hotel also offers a laundry area with a washing machine and dryerl but the washing machine looked as of it had a red stain. They also have a sauna and a small gym free for guests.
There was a horrible sewer stench in my room throughout my 3-day visit to the extend I thought I was turning into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle at some point. I was staying at the 3rd floor, and my colleague at 5th floor had the same issue, so this wasn’t a one off. My two other colleagues in other rooms didn’t experience it. I complained about it three times, but nothing was done. One guy was supposedly sent to check it out, whilst I wasn’t there, but the response was, he couldn’t smell it. Later I realized, the smell started whenever I flushed the toilet or used the sink. The guy must have not known. I guarantee you, if he had turned on the water, he would have instantly noticed. Other than that: Great staff and aside from the horrible smell – great stay. Edit: After I left, my Ninja Turtle mutation has now completed, and I combat villains every night wearing nothing but my shell and a headband. My diet consists of 100% pizza. 5/5 would visit again.
AAbbey Abiodun OmosanyaReally appreciate been able to check-in very late after calling equally late. I had done a similar thing in Maidstone sometime ago only to get there late and told I have not booked earlier although I have not paid. It was to be I should pay at the hostel.
I was simply turned back only for them to sending me no show later. I simply ignored them.
The hostel is excellent, secure, warm, clean and centrally located in Uppsala.
Room is nice and cozy, and hotel layout is unique. Combined shower/toilet design helps save space. Hotel does not have a 24 hour desk, and after hours support is lacking. Hotel has transitioned to a digital key, and mine did not work a few days after check in, at 2 AM. After hours instructions are to dial a special number on the front door keypad which results in a very short time to talk to the after hours support. I was instructed to access the hotel safe to retrieve a digital yellow master key, after multiple redials. The safe was full of physical keys, but no digital keys! My door had no physical keyhole. Repeated calls to after hour support urged me to keep looking for a master key, until I gave up and just slept on a couch in the lobby. When the morning staff arrived at ~06:30, they had to wake up another guest to retrieve the master key from their room. Staff was able to get me a functional key hours later. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel, and more importantly, my flight on my checkout day 2 days later would require me to leave the hotel before the morning staff arrived. I could not trust the hotel to maintain access to my belongings after hours, so I checked out and moved to a hotel with a 24 hour desk (the only reason booked Hotel Stella to begin with was because all others in the area were booked, but an opening came up). The new hotel was comparable price but much nicer for a similar price. Wish they would have had availability to begin with. I requested a refund of my unused nights from Hotel Stella and the owner blamed me for my experience. After multiple rounds of communication, he offered to reimburse me for the night I spent on the couch, but would not excuse me checking out early, calling my reasoning a ”fantasy”. This is a solid hotel, but beware the management!
