I've stayed at a lot of Hampton Inns in my time and am a Diamond Member. We stayed at several Hampton Inns on our trip out to the Grand Canyon over the last two weeks. When everything got cancelled due to the water line break in the Canyon over Labor Day, we came back here for another night. The place is clean, the staff lovely, the town appears safe, Diamond Member parking was in front and convenient to the front door. I'd say this was my #1 favorite Hampton Inn of this year's trip. All of the Hampton Inns we stayed at were good with the exception of Kayenta, AZ (see my other review for that hot mess) and so it was a hard ranking to arrive at, but Cortez gets the #1 spot.
The hotel was a bit dated but comfortable. The staff was pleasant and knowledgeable. The front desk recommended Tequila Mexican Restaurant, which we loved. We stayed in the family room with bunk beds for kids, which was a great family option. Our kids were surprised to find a video game console in their room. The laundry and the gym were in a separate building, which was slightly inconvenient. The hotel is about 10 minutes from the Mesa Verde entrance. We went on a cliff dwelling tour. To get to the actual site, you need to plan on about an hour's drive from the hotel since the road through the park is steep, long, and windy.
This is an older hotel, but our room was in a newer section. The room was spacious, front desk staff were great, beds/linens were comfortable, breakfast was lacking in quantity. The food employee could not keep the coffee & food supplied for the guests. It was a slow process to cook eggs & replenish coffee. Other food items were lacking or not as we expected of BW.
Wonderful concept, made an old motel into something new and original. Some of the features that stood out: very clean, excellent water pressure, comfy bed with soft sheets and good pillows, large rooms, and tasty breakfast with large variety in a cute diner style area. We didn’t get the opportunity to take advantage of the game room, but we saw kids playing ping pong on the lawn as we were leaving. Would 100% stay here again if ever back in Cortez.
Staying here has always been a safe, affordable, convenient, choice. The family that operates the Cortez Super 8 are wonderful and amazing. They are considered family now You have been there time and time again for us ❤️. Everyone here goes above and beyond! Thank You again!
