Surprisingly great experience. The reception staff was wonderful and went beyond the call to help us when my husband got sick. True, the hotel is not located in a beautiful area, and didn't look like much from the outside - but WOW when you entered the expansive lobby you have a beautiful view of the sea. We are seniors, driving on our own, so were looking for a hotel that didn't involve negotiating the city streets, served breakfast and had free parking on site. It was raining hard when we arrived, so were pleased to know there is a restaurant there as well. It was a 4e Uber ride into the charming town center. Viana do Castelo is lovely. The hotel specializes in large groups (there were several well behaved young futbol teams there during our stay). The breakfast buffet was plentiful and diverse. We had a sea view room, with a balcony and two lounge chairs....if only the weather had been better!
My partner and I recently enjoyed a delightful 3-night stay at Hotel Axis in Viana do Castelo. For us, a blend of convenience and tranquility was key, and this hotel nailed it with its location – just a quick 5-minute drive from the city center. The modern ambiance of the hotel, with its clean lines and straightforward furnishings, created a practical and comfortable setting. As a business traveler, the reliable and efficient staff made the entire experience seamless, from check-in to check-out. Our room provided a serene space with essential amenities and a charming city view, ideal for a restful night's sleep. The unexpected highlight was the well-equipped gym, perfect for maintaining our fitness routine together. In summary, Hotel Axis is an excellent choice for people seeking a blend of tranquility and modern comfort. Whether you're in Viana do Castelo for business or leisure, this hotel caters to both, offering a practical and comfortable escape.
We chose to visit Viana Do Castello because we saw a picture of the view from the Special Suite at this hotel, Room 107. It was as amazing as we had hoped and we are so glad we stayed here. We have stayed in some tremendous places, but this suite is among the best ever, because of the immense Patio that is probably 25 or 30 feet long with that unbelievable view. Really Huge. With 4 sets of French doors opening up on it; 3 in the living room and 1 in the bedroom. The suite was also huge and well equipped. This is an historic hotel and it is old, so don’t expect modern or everything to be pristine (some of the carpets in the hallway are stained). It is not a full service resort- there is not a doorman waiting to open the door and take your luggage. But don’t look at it’s shortcomings, it is an amazing place. They have a great restaurant, awesome breakfast, full bar, and beautiful public spaces. I advise you: DO NOT get a room without a view. To us, the whole point is the view. I’m not sure if there is more than 1 special suite but only room 107 has the huge balcony.
This was a nice little boutique hotel right near the historic center. We were always greeted with a smile and treated kindly. I shared a room with my son and the twin beds were more than adequate. Bathroom is on the small side but it was fine for our needs. The hotel is a little older but the elevator worked great and the entire property was well kept and clean. My only caveat was there there was no outdoor seating area, you have to wear a swim cap and water shoes for the pool and the pool was indoors in a very hot room. The continental style breakfast buffet was good and provided lots of variety. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again!

I spent a splendid few days at this fabulous and unique hotel in Viana do Castelo with my sister. Based in an old chocolate factory this hotel is designed all around the concept of chocolate. The rooms are themed; we stayed in Roca, which is a name used for the areas where the cacao is grown and harvested. It came with a small balcony with chairs and table which was nice. The staff where all really helpful and kind, and worked around our needs specifically at breakfast with my sister having a couple of allergy requirements and myself needing different times due to onward travel and taking part in the Etape Portugal cycle race. The hotel was spotlessly clean and very relaxing, it was nice to sit outside on a few of the evenings and enjoy a tea and cold chocolate drink! Breakfast was served at the tables and was very good with a number of pastries, cake, pancakes, meat, cheese, fruit and a choice of drinks, cereals and much more. We also loved looking around the museum below; all about the history of chocolate with lots of great info and facts and few hands-on elements, like making a drink of the chocolate drink Montezuma used to have 50 of a day, wow! The shop adjacent to the reception has a number of chocolate gifts made on site as well as hand-picked external gifts that are suitable for any chocolate lover! The location was ideal for me taking part in the Etape Portugal as it was only a few minutes walk to the start of the race. It was also very close to the station and all the key restaurants, shops and cultural buildings in the city. Viana do Castelo itself is a wonderful place and the Monte Santa Luzia offers amazing views across the region and out along the coast. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I'd love to return in the future and explore the area more! Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
Our experience at this hotel was outstanding. After a long day's walk with backpacks on the Camino Portuguese, it was wonderful to be greeted by the hotel's reception staff with an invitation to take a bath and relax and then come back to the front desk with our passports to complete the check in. We were also invited to feel free to bring any hand washed laundry that we did to the front reception to be dried in the hotel's dryer and returned! The room was very attractive, roomy and comfortable. The breakfast had everything that we could possibly want and was available early, which was appreciated. I highly recommend this hotel.

SSPA64We stayed here over the weekend of L’Etape Portugal 2023 as we were riding in the event. It was the perfect base and we loved everything about the hotel. All of the staff made us feel so welcome and were so friendly. Particular mention must go to the Bike Center team, who accommodated all of our requirements for the race with the bike rentals, set-up and details. Nothing was a problem! This a wonderful place to stay to enjoy the beach, sports, weather and also to easily explore Viana do Castelo. We will be back!
