The room smelled bad. Kind of like a locker room would smell like or maybe like wet carpet. You get used to the smell after time but it's bothersome walking into your room after a long day and your initial reaction is to hold your breath.

With a name like “Lord Elgin”, the location and size of the building, I expected much more. The room was your average hotel room but on the small side with no microwave. One was brought up to me though as I needed one. The bed was ok and the pillows were comfy. A bonus was being able to open the window for some fresh air, and the park view was nice.
Steve, the valet, was awesome with a great sense of humour/attitude. The front desk staff were friendly as well.
I definitely expected something much swankier than what I got.

The 25$ charge for the continental breakfast was way too much and it was not clear it would be that expensive.
Hotel was good otherwise

The Lord Elgin has the sophistication and class of the Fairmount-era hotels that have a special appeal here in Canada. The hotel is situated in a very central location, only a short walk of cab ride to the Byward Market and the many fine dining establishments along Elgin Street. We always enjoy our stays here.

It was very noised at night, people in the hall way at midnight. You v
Can hear everything in the rooms.
Our towels were like using paper towel. There were no bathrobes in the room but the cleaning staff and a pile on the carts so we were able to get them along with better towels.

Heating for the rooms on the 8th floor does not work properly, even after obtaining a space heater. That is, it was not possible to create a steady room temperature.

The hotel and its location are amazing. The views from the room were amazing. Overall it was a fabulous place to stay - right across from the National Arts Centre where we were seeing the Nutcracker. One minor issue: the pillows were dreadful - very firm and large with no variety, which made for an uncomfortable sleep.
