This small family run hotel does Everything right! From the room design (including plenty of storage, lights and outlets), to the generous breakfast buffet and fine dining dinners, to the helpful staff, spacious ski locker room and the beautiful Wellness Center! This is a great retreat for exploring the Dolomites! Some apartments are in a secondary building that requires uphill walking. The Chef did an amazing job accommodating a vegetarian diet. Every night offered a protein for vegetarians - over 5 nights, each night was different!

Beautiful, peaceful situation overlooking the valley and Ortesei. Exceptional food and the staff were friendly and efficient. The wellness area with infinity pool, steam room and lovely sauna with a full glass wall overlooking the town was perfect after a long day of walking in the surrounding area. The hotel is high up a steep hill but without that you wouldn’t get the peaceful ambience and view so you can’t have it both ways! There is a bus once an hour so with a bit of flexibility and planning you wouldn’t have to walk up. We never did!

I am writing to share my recent experience at Rainell Dolomites Retreat and advise against staying there. The cost of the room was disproportionately high given its quality and the extremely poor amenities. The actual condition of the property and rooms bears no resemblance to the images displayed on their website. Furthermore, the owners, who also operate the business, demonstrated a complete lack of customer service throughout my stay. The room itself had several issues, including a leaking shower and no body wash provided. The location is also incredibly inconvenient, making it difficult to access. There are many better alternatives available nearby, offering superior accommodations and more convenient access to local restaurants and the town. I strongly recommend choosing a different establishment for your stay.

This is a very good hotel in a quiet location, just outside the main part of Ortisei. We had a nice big room at the corner of the hotel with a large balcony running around the corner, which had a couple of chairs and a table. All of the staff were attentive, very friendly, very helpful, and very efficient. The four course dinner menu was very good. All of the dishes we had were tasty, nicely presented and a good size. The wine list was very good. There is a small outdoor swimming pool with good views across the valley floor to the main part of Ortisei. There is an easy downhill walk to the centre of Ortisei, but it is a steep uphill climb back. There is a bus stop outside the hotel, and buses run once an hour in the morning and after 14.30 until early evening. A taxi from the centre of Ortisei back to the hotel costs €15-20. There are nice grounds at the back of the hotel with views over the base of the valley. In nice weather, breakfast is served on a small patio. The breakfast buffet is quite extensive with a good selection of cold meats, cheeses, fruit, cereals, etc.

We chose the Rainell as our base for five nights hiking in the Val Gardena area. It is located on the hill just outside of and overlooking the town of Ortesei with really nice views. We stayed in an Alpin suite and chose half board (breakfast and dinner included). The Rainell is a family owned and operated hotel. The owners are very involved in the day to day operations and were so lovely and helpful (like all the staff here), giving us some excellent tips for our day hikes. Our room was large, well equipped and we had a really nice view over Ortesei from our balcony. The food was excellent at the hotel. Breakfast was hearty with plenty of options to choose from and dinner was four courses plus a salad buffet.. No one goes hungry at the Rainell after a day of hiking!! The restaurant and bar staff were always there to help with recommendations. One thing to note, is that you are allocated a table in the dining room for the duration of your stay-you eat at that same table for all your meals. A big bonus for us is that the hotel has a washer and dryer for guest use which was really convenient. It is coin operated and wasn't busy at all..

We stayed at The Rainell for 4 nights and was a very enjoyable stay. It is a family run hotel and the service was professional and friendly, and we got valuable advice on the mountain hikes in the area. We took the half board option and the breakfasts and dinner were superb, as well as pre-dinner drinks outside was views up to the mountains. It is located within a short walk down to Ortisei which is a lovely village although can get busy there in high season.

We arrived last minute and staff was welcoming. Reception area is very pleasing. Stayed nights and very very comfortable bed. Clean and lots of hot water in the shower. 4/ 6 pm daily serves free cake and strudel. Breakfast is certainly ample and servers are excellent. Rated this is 4 rather than a 5 for minor things: no tea, coffee maker in the room … Which is important to us to get the motor running in the morning! Also, no nightstands or bedside tables which we found inconvenient as phone chargers, were away from the head of the bed.

Stuff are really friendly and helpful

The family and staff of Rainelle are so welcoming and delightful. The Silent Room with the incredible view of the mountains was a special experience that sets this hotel above the rest. The rooms are especially large and comfortable. There is a taxi stand in town that we took one evening after dinner since the bus had stopped running, to avoid the long walk up the hill. We walked the hill twice and it is challenging but totally doable if you are in decent shape. We are in our early 60s and in the area to hike so it didn't bother us too much.
