Booked two rooms with 2 Queen beds for the 6 of us. There was a heat wave and the AC was not working in any of the rooms.
We called maintenance, they checked and said rooms need to be changed and they will let the front desk know.
We did not hear back, so we went downstairs after the Argentina vs. Cape Verde match was over.
The TV screen resolutions were very bad as well. It felt like we were watching a pixelated match.
The front desk person completely ignored us while we were standing there and kept on asking who was next and helping others behind us, until I waved my hand and cut in.
She said, they are looking to find us a room, and will let us know when they get a room. This was around 9:15 pm. We were heading out to eat.
She called us and said they can't change our rooms, but can provide us with a fan for each room for that night and will change us to another room the next day. There was a heat wave going on and the rooms were 27 degrees celsius. My sister took over the phone and there was magically a room available. But the room had one king sized bed and they said they would provide a cot.
When we were walking back to the room, the sign said open, which meant that rooms were available. When my sister pointed that out, they said there was a cancellation so there was another room available. So my sister convinced them to give us that room for the night as well so we don't have to sleep in the heat.
The front desk person kept on saying that there are hot tubs inside the room, as if she was giving us an upgrade. I said, I am here with my family I don't think I will be sharing a hot tub in the room with my father.
So we moved everything to the new rooms, when my husband found out that the refrigerator in the old room wasn't working either, and we had put in food that we had brought from Toronto in the fridge, so we had to throw everything out.
The new rooms had tiny bathrooms, our room's bathroom door lock did not work, and the hot tub that was taking so much of the actual room had water leaking and it was really dirty.
The wallpapers were peeling off the walls and the toilet was stained.
They gave a folded cot for both rooms, but did not even set it up. My friend, who is visiting from Germany, unfolded it, but it was sagging in the middle.
The next day we had to repack everything again and change rooms again.
The manager had told my sister that we could pack up everything and they would move our stuff for us, but considering the 'wonderful' service we had the day before, I told him we will move our own stuff. When I told him that the service the night before was horrible, he said, "but you are still smiling" as if all our trouble meant nothing.
Overall, we will be avoiding any Travelodge whenever we travel from now on.
