I booked this hotel because of the great reviews, the time our flight landed and the convenience of being close to the airport. We arrived late at night and their shuttle was not available so I was told they would have a taxi waiting for us to bring us to the hotel. That never happened. Upon arrival - no greeting from the woman at the front desk and the atmosphere was not welcoming at all. She explained nothing to us and only asked for payment. I had to ask for water, amenities information and the time that breakfast is served. The rooms were comfortable, I like the three beds and they have AC. My husband however, made the mistake of looking behind one of the bed posts and there was tons of hair, dust and dirt accumulated for who knows how long. It was awful! In the morning - same, no greeting from a different woman at the front desk. To top it off - they were supposed to refund $50.00 back to my credit card. As of today, no refund! So on top of being rude, they also keep the money that they say they are going to refund. Pros - bellhop was extremely nice and helpful and so were the gentlemen working in the restaurant in the morning. Other than that - I would stay far away from this place. Or maybe because we are latinos we are treated differently than other guests. We will never stay here again and we were very excited to be here as this was our first trip to Nicaragua.

Honestly, there are not such great accommodation options in Managua, and I'm so grateful to have found El Almendro. I will always stay here in Managua and I recommend that you do too! I have stayed here twice in 2023. The first time I was with my fiancee, and the second time when we returned for our Oct. wedding in Granada. We spent a few nights at this hotel with my parents before the wedding. Spacious rooms, good security, good AC, hot water showers, incredibly friendly staff, nice pool with sitting areas around, great breakfast made-to-order, good location, and the place feels very local. I like supporting smaller locally-owned and operated places, instead of hotel chains owned by foreign billionaires. Some of the rooms have kitchenettes and couches. It is across the street from a great restaurant where we ate a few times, Metro De Asado, with large portions of really delicious food, as well as a block away from a book/art/school supply store (Libreria Hispamer) and really nice cafe/restaurant that serves delicious food and drinks, called El Molino Coffee Shop. There are also local Nica food stands within walking distance so that you can experience more local food. We had a rental car the second time and could securely park it inside the hotel grounds. The first time we didn't have a car, and found it to be a convenient location, very close to a main bus stop at ”La Uca” (Universidad Centroamericana).
The facilities are nice BUT they are lacking good service, It’s just just not there. Let me tell you from the beginning this place is NOT LGBTQ friendly, I spent a night here with my partner and the staff was very rude and kept looking at us in a very judgmental way, nobody gave us that welcoming feeling you expect from a place where you visit for the first time specially if you’re paying for the service and expect great things. From the beginning there were many issues. As a 5-star Hotels Forbes Trainer I can tell you they need to fix many things 1. The front desk staff is NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE about packages and what’s included in the price I booked my reservation online and never received any confirmations nor any details via email, I had to call the hotel and ask for them to process the reservation. Again the front desk lady knew nothing about it and had me call Marjorie? For more details. 2. They did not give me any details about breakfast when checking in and we missed it. The front desk Lady was rude and dismissive she did not provide any details about the services and where to find stuff around the hotel. 3. They did not give us the welcome cocktail 4. I asked for a different wine than the one included in the package and even though they couldn’t change it for free, they still did not offer me another option even as an extra cost, which I would’ve pay for if offered 5. During dinner, the server was so worried about 2 men enjoying their romantic package that she messed up my order and brought the wrong plate (never apologized for it) 6. The servers at Azul are rude and just not welcoming. Customer Service it’s just not present, it’s just plain rude and horrible service. In the end they have the facilities and they’re nice but they’re lacking great staff and great service. NOT recommended at all specially if you’re local, if I ever come back it might be just because of the American set up they have in most of the facilities but not because I was happy during my stay.
