We booked this hotel because it was affordable, but that doesn’t mean we should be treated any differently as guests. A low room rate should never be an excuse for poor hospitality.
Shoutout to the front desk agent who assisted us during check-in—she never stood up or even properly welcomed us. I understand that front desk staff may be seated while processing check-ins, but there should still be basic courtesy and professionalism when welcoming guests.
What disappointed me even more was when we went down to the lobby no one greeted us, not even a simple “Good morning, sir” or “Thank you.” These may seem like small gestures, but in the hospitality industry, they matter.
I can understand the worn-out linens because we booked at a cheaper rate, and I was willing to overlook that. But the attitude and lack of basic guest service were much more disappointing.
Whether the guest paid a discounted rate or the highest room rate, every guest deserves to be welcomed and treated with respect. That’s hospitality 101. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, this was honestly frustrating to experience. 😩
