Castaway Beach Bungalows

Pen, Martin and team are awesome and make this place how it should be if you want to experience a real Thai island holiday. They were integral in making our holiday the best it could be, relaxed and chilled from the first second we arrived. If you want to spend time exploring the real Thailand away from the all inclusive resorts where you could be anywhere this is the place to stay. The sunsets beat Ibiza's every time. The accommodation is mixed with one bedroom bungalows and a one bedroom house. If you want 5 star luxury you should book one of those fancy resorts, each to their own, but if you're looking to lie in a hammock, sipping a beer or cocktail right on the beach with superb home cooking on hand then this is the place to stay 😀

We stayed at the Castaway beach bungalows for 8 days, following a 14 day tour of Thailand. We came here to recuperate and relax...... and it was everything we hoped for and more. We stayed in 'The Loookout', right on the beach. The beach house itself is beautifully designed and constructed and gave us everything we needed. Downstairs, a double bedroom and a bathroom, with shower and loo. Then upstairs a lounge area and a well-equipped kitchen (microwave, toaster, kettle, large fridge). Then the balcony area on which we spent most of our time just drinking in the views and spectacular sunsets. Two chairs and a table, plus the option of the hammock, which was great. The beach itself is beautiful white sand and palm trees. The water is very shallow, so not suitable for swimming, but perfect for walks /paddling. Stunning setting, and the owners take great care of it, cleaning and raking the sand each morning so it's pristine. Lots of deckchairs and chill out areas provided. We have travelled extensively, but The Castaway Beach Bungalows are the closest thing to paradise we've ever experienced. Totally chilled and relaxing. The bar/restaurant area is open for drinks and breakfast, and has a very chilled vibe. There's a 7-11 within a 5 minute walk for everything you may need. Also a good moped hire shop within 5 minutes - we hired one for 3 days to see more of the island. Kho ma beach highly recommended for snorkeling. Martin, the owner was extremely welcoming and very helpful with guidance on the best places to visit etc. All staff were lovely and very friendly. We'd happily mark this as 10/10,and we will definitely be back for another visit. This really is paradise!

Liked · The sunsets here were one of the highlights of our 3 week trip. We stayed 4 nights, and planned our days around getting out on the sand bank each evening to admire the view. A great spot to just do nothing, we spent the days sat in the hammock and bench on the decking just reading. Nice to be able to get out of the sun but still enjoy the views. The beach itself is great, the staff sweep it clean each morning. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Note it is not a swimming beach, the water isn't deep enough! Breakfast is great, you can see the English influence with decent dishes and a proper coffee machine. There are loads of top notch resturants for dinner further up the beach within a 15 min walk, and a massage place a 10 min walk down the road. The bungalow was well built and we had a surprising lack of 'unwanted guests' as a result. Our room was great value for money per night. Disliked · While breakfast is great, the cafe is open to the public as well as guests. It's totally understandable, but it did mean we had really long waits each day for our food to arrive (40+ mins). Good job there's an exceptional view and decent music playing to pass the time. As per the description, the rooms are on the warm side at night due to no A/C, but the big ceiling fan does the job pretty well. No mosquito net as listed, but not needed as they don't stand a chance against the breeze from the fan! Be aware the location is on a fairly main road, which means traffic noise. Our bungalow right down the end was next door to a resturant too so was a bit noisy. The room service system is a bit strange, because you have to ask for everything. It then gets brought over by friendly staff so not a major issue. We totally get the eco-rationale for not cleaning the room every day and changing towels etc, but feel basics like water and toilet roll could be dropped off each day.

Everything. Perfect location, probably best place we've stayed in Thailand. Amazing beach house, with everything you need, staff and owner very friendly and helpful. Really amazing sunsets. We can't wait to get back in the winter. Best place in Koh Phangan. We loved it

If you are looking for a place with an Idyllic tropical island, castaway vibe, then this place is for you. The nioa huts are so lovely and all are facing the sea. The huts are tiny and might feel claustrophobic but I found it rather cozy. The toilet is clean with shower heater. There is a tiny refrigerator for your drinks. In front of this resort is a lovely sandbar. I love to walk there in the morning and late afternoon. The water is too shallow for swimming. It's nice to sit there and meditate in that shallow water. There are numerous restaurants in that area of Hinkong Road, all are cheap and affordable.

In Castaway you can literally feel like on a tiny remote paradise island. Private beach, best sunset view straight from your cosy and fully equipped bungalow, and such open and helpful staff! The place is small so you quickly feel like a part of the Castaway family here, and even when the place is full - it is never crowded. So the beach is practically for yourselves! It is always clean and neat, as the owner really takes care of the area all day around. Castaway is located just in front of the small lagoon, a beautiful place for evening walks and romantic sunsets. This was our second stay here and we hope to come back again soon!
