After a 5 day holiday stay at a poor excuse of a 5 star hotel in Dadonghai I searched this Singapore (Ascott) brand 5 star hotel in Haikou to renew my confidence in staying at a 5 star hotel. As our DiDi car entered the area of the newly built hotel, the desolation due to the far from completed construction in the area gave us pause, especially not seeing any restaurants, eateries, convenience stores or shops. The hotel stands as a diamond in the desert. Before checking in, we confirmed that the hotel restaurant was still open as it was already after 2 pm and we had not eaten breakfast or lunch during our travel by train. The restaurant was only serving “high tea” consisting of only a choice of cakes and desserts. We ordered food delivery through *******. The room was visibly new and luxurious as presented on Trip.com. BUT, had to wear shoes or the complimentary slippers as the floors had not been mopped resulting in the bottoms of my feet 👣 being dirty walking around in the room without shoes or slippers. There was an electric water kettle on the mini kitchen counter BUT no electrical outlet on the wall, so I plugged it in at the vanity mirror table next to the television. Swimming pool surrounded by beautiful garden which made lying poolside impossible and only at the end of the pool area where loungers were located some 5-10 meters away from the pool. Fully equipped gym and beautiful lobby. We are considering the 1 month long term stay package promotion for next winter (2027) depending on the availability of restaurants and other shops opening in this desolate area. BTW, we had a view of the Sea from the 17th floor but couldn’t see the palm trees because of the buildings being constructed blocking the hotel’s view of the beach & sea. New hotel with growing pains due to low occupancy in a desolate area. We optimistically wish the hotel success in surviving while the area remains under construction and without supporting businesses, especially restaurants/eateries.
