It was a very nice stay, the employees were awesome to talk to and gave lots of information. The koi pond was very tranquil feeling, I was wishing we had known about it the night earlier. There is a restaurant close by the property that show your room card and you will get 10% off. But be careful the restaurant will have the credit card fee on it, before even knowing if you are paying by cash or card.
We stayed several nights as our daughter was starting school at Cal Poly Humboldt nearby. The room was very comfortable, the lobby was nice, and the breakfast was well done. The price was a little high, but it was a high demand time of year. Our room overlooked the parking lot and not the highway so it was quiet. The gated parking lot is a little offputting, but it functioned just fine. Overall, we would stay here again.
Our room was clean when we arrived and the room is well appointed. But I find myself hovering between three and four stars. The website claims that this is a new hotel and that it has daily housekeeping. We were there for three days and never saw housekeeping. We had to go to the front desk to get toilet paper and coffee. The surprising lack of USB ports in a ”new hotel” struck us as a miss on the planning department. And the TV was rudimentary without a channel guide, no streaming service, etc. Things you would expect in a ”new hotel.” And a big gripe about the auto close on the bathroom door, so the bathroom was always hot and stuffy. Of note, due to CA regulations, you have to put your key card in a slot next to the door in order for the air condinioner to work. Not sure what happens if you use keyless entry. And finally, the shower head was rediculous and put out little water (yet leaked water out all over the floor), probably due to another CA restriction. But if you are trying to save water, try keeping it IN the shower and not on the floor. We recognize that the hotel must abide by CA law, so our rating does not reflect compliance but more of the execution of those laws. (ie: a Better/working shower head).
Our stay at Carter Bed and Breakfast was perfect, from check in to check out. We were greeted with chocolate chip cookies, then a complimentary class of wine in the bar/lobby before we went out to dinner. Our room was large, quiet, airy (tall ceiling with large fan) and the bed was super comfortable. There were lots of potential restaurants within walking distance - and old town is lovely to walk around in - and the bar at the Carter House even serves light food/appetizers. The breakfast (3 choices made to order) plus an amazing pastries, fruit, yogurt, juices, etc bar. The General Manager who we met before checking out, took us on a tour of the home across the street and gave us a great verbal history of Eureka. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to everyone!
Mmax_vaI had a very good stay. This Travelodge left an impression of a very well-run property. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of my room here, enough to come back now to leave this review. This was my base for travel in the redwoods parks, lost coast, other surrounding attractions. Most located within 1 hr from the hotel. I did not spend much time in the room. It was a place to sleep, take a shower, and get myself going. Granted, this is a motel, not a five-star resort, but based on my experience this property delivers what it is supposed to deliver. Easy parking. The room was very clean, well maintained, good-sized, and comfortable. No breakfast at the hotel, but many options nearby, including local shops. Standard chains (e.g., Ihop) in the opposite direction, but similarly close by. The location is within walking distance to ”old town Eureka” (don't expect too much, but it's pleasant enough), with lots of bars/restaurants, including above-mentioned breakfast options. Across the street you will find a full-size organic food supermarket with a deli. There were some homeless people in the surrounding area, but not too many and they were harmless. This is kind of obligatory in CA. During my stay most of the hotel was occupied by firefighters. Looked like CalFire rents this place to house out-of-town force. I did not have to interact much with the front desk staff (which is exactly the way it should be), but to the extent I did they were nice and helpful.
The room was a little tired, but everything was clean. Having chargers for EVs was a nice touch, but the parking lot is really tight if you have a minivan or pick-up. Most of the rooms on are on the second floor, and there's no elevator. The worst thing is the check-in. There was no attendant. Everything was done via an off-shore call center, and the connection was wonky. Given his accent, I guessed that the attendant was in the Philippines, but when I asked him where he was, and all he would say was that he was in the ”back-up office.” It doesn't really matter where he was if the check-in was done via an online kiosk, but his dodging the question was weird. We had a family suite, which was nice to have the girls in another room for a change instead of in the adjoining bed. Overall, the hotel was a decent place to stay for the price.
