New project has me working in Evanston 3xs a year, a week at a time. This is my third trip and pleased to find this little gem of a quaint, family owned, retro motel. Yes, its older, yes its furnishings are dated, but come on, for this price you shouldnt expect a Marriot. CJ checked me in and was very pleasant. At a third less than price of your name brand hotels to boot. I only need a place to lay my head, finish up my daily paper work and no need to pay $100 a night to do it. Two doors to the room, one to parking lot ( you can park right outside your door) and the other that leads into the hallway. The rooms are HUGE!. Lets start with the plus side of things. Yes, huge room, very good water pressure with plenty of hot water with a great shower head. Two sinks, one in a vanity area. I microwave and fridge. Bed was comfy, pillows adequate. Nice flat screen television, heater worked well on chilly nights. There are lots of working folks that stay here but the place was SO quiet, almost eerily so, but had a fan in the room to drown out the silence to help me sleep. Laundry was brightly lit, and the iron/board is in the laundry room. The breakfast area is small, and they provide packaged boiled eggs, individual box cereals, Costco type pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. Now the down side. No bath soap bars, they used those wall mounted liquid dispensers. Not sure what the room temperature will be like in the summer as I am not sure if they have air conditioner, but I suspect not since each room is provided with a portable fan. East side of motel sits up against a small hillish mountain so there wasnt much day light, and the room is quite dark anyways. Except for the window above the outside door, which has no cover on it so the flourescent light just outside it shines in terribly at night. And no coffee maker. All of this is managable. The internet...........I mean the lack thereof was HORRIBE though. I'd finally get connected and it would continually drop, ALL THE TIME! Luckily I had a work tablet that had Verizon so I could hot spot my phone wi-fi through it, but such a pain. Also, although NOT their fault, if you dont have Verizon in this end of town you are out of luck when it comes to using your phone for calling anybody. I spend over 200 nights a year in hotels/motels. This is a small town, and I've stayed at a couple of others in the past year. But, because of the price point, the friendliness and courtesy of the owners/manager this is going to be my 'go to' place from now on. Yes, I get points for my loyalty status at other hotels in the area, but for the price and what you get here those points cant match the lower costs of Prairie Inn. I'll be making this my hoe base during the three weeks a year that I will be in Evanston.
