This hotel is a dud. When we arrived, the receptionist thrust papers at us without any hint of a smile. We were an irritant to her. Our room was noisy and when we tried to change notwithstanding it was a Monday night and the hotel really didn’t feel full at all, she said there weren’t any rooms. The corridor to our room was dark and gloomy. Our room’s bathroom had a broken toilet seat. At breakfast, the choices weren’t great. No cereal or muesli. Thank goodness we didn’t have dinner here last night as it looked very gloomy so we walked to Hotel De La Sure where we had a lovely dinner on the terrace. Next time we come here, we will stay there as it had a lovely vibe and felt welcoming.
For my cycling trip of 3 days in Luxemburg I needed something centrally located. Esch seemed to be a good spot for that. Despite the mixed reviews decided to take my chances and book 2 nights. Esch sur Sure is a tourist trap, and with only 2 hotels you haven't got much too choose from. The other has even worse reviews. The room assigned, 17, is in a separate building next to the church with its bells ringing every 15', starting at 7 in the morning. You don't need to set your alarm... Good thing though that at 23:00 it is the last. Reception; as mentioned by other reviewers: unpolite and unfriendly. Breakfast: good with plenty of choice. Diner: because of the other reviews we decided not te eat here. Room: dated with a small bathroom, shower of 1m2. Plus: spring water from the tap. Beds: comfortable. Staff: when the owners are unpolite, the staff is adjusting accordingly. Hence the title of this review. Esch: only 3 places where you can have a coffee; this hotel: coffee is good! The other hotel: dirty terrace, so we went somewhere else. Third place only accepts cash... Summary: too expensive for what you get. Advice: only when you absolutely need to stay in Esch.
We booked the Zen room to take advantage of the spa the next morning. The price for the room with breakfast is 119EUR. This price is not worth the experience, especially when compared to other hotels with a spa in Luxembourg. The room is on the ground floor of the hotel building. There is no privacy as all people pass right in front of your windows, especially the floor to ceiling windows where you are supposed to eat and relax. The view from these windows is the neighbours' backyard. During the day to keep your privacy you need to keep the shutters closed which limits the light in the room. The worst part is that there entire room is one open room including the shower and toilet area. This room is only meant for people that are comfortable going to the bathroom, including ”number two” and all smells and sounds included, in front of each other. Apparently, this will be changed in about a month, but the room has been like this since at least 2017. Despite being called the Zen room, this room created the opposite of Zen for us. You can also hear everyone going up and down the stairs, in the morning you can hear the breakfast being prepared and anyone passing by. The restaurant was the best part of the stay with a good menu and good quality food, but I would say it is 15-20% overpriced.
Nicely located hotel complex. The rooms are very clean though the bathroom was very tiny. The food served in the restaurant was excellent also the menu in our arrangement was top, but the hotel bar could have been made much cosier, the tables in the bar used by previous customers are not cleaned immediately neither. So just a potential tip to do some small re-arrangements in that area. Most of the time all staff is standing behind or in front of the bar as well whilst there are 2 tables just in front of that bar as well which makes it a very busy area…
