The Rock Face

This is a comfortable homestay with nice rooms with fan, mosquito net and fridge. No aircon but you probably won't need it. Breakfast was good, laundry can be done for 600LKR/kg, and the owner and staff were friendly. Unfortunately, be wary about trusting the photos on The Rock Face website and booking sites. I've been to Ella before. This visit I wanted accommodation near the main street, with a killer valley and Rock view. The Rock Face appeared to tick the boxes. We reserved a Deluxe King Room with Ella Rock View. When we arrived at the hotel we were given tea and asked to pay for the room in advance of seeing it. Then we were taken to the room. Our room was on the first floor and unfortunately the balcony only has a tiny peak of Ella Rock. Mostly it's a view of a large eletrical pylon, and the concrete wall of a hotel being built where the view might have been in previous years. The owner laughed and said "we should take Ella Rock View out of the room description!". It is possible that rooms on the top floor/second cloor have a better and more unimpeded view, but those aren't the "Ella Rock View" room we were given. If you want great views, you can do much better in other accommodation in Ella. The hotel's locafion is just 100m from central Ella restaurants and shops, but note that like many Ella hotels, the driveway up (and shortcut walk) are both very steep. For us, the false advertising and lack of promoted views were the memory we leave with.

The perfect stay; the bedroom and bathroom were immaculate woth lots of space. The staff were amazing and helped in many ways. Great views from the room, in the very centre of town and great value for money.

Had a wonderful 5 day stay here with my family. The location is conveniently almost right at the Ella central area but on a hill that keeps it away from all the hustle and bustle. A bit of a steep climb but that is one of the charms of Ella. Place is run by a family who are very warm and welcoming. They genuinely go the extra mile to make your stay special. Rooms have all the basic facilities and are very clean. Absolute value for money.

My experience at the rock face was wonderful. The bedrooms are really comfortable and they have all you need. They all come with a lovely balcony. Most importantly, the host are really kind and welcoming, always with a smile, and they are open to help you with everything you ask. Also, if you opt for having dinner there the quality and taste of the food is amazing. Please try the curry :)

Excellent place to Stay in Ella. Spent 31st Night in Ella and nothing to regret with the stay. Rock Face has all you need in one place. Clean, neat and tidy bed rooms, unmatchable excellent service by the owner and her daughter made our stay extremely comfortable. We were in a group so booked 4 rooms. They have a family room in ground floor, a Triple room and 2 double rooms in the 1st floor, and 3 double rooms in the 3rd floor. All the rooms have hot water and clean bathrooms. Highly recommend Rock Face for your stay. The place is located uphill with a beautiful view, so be ready to drive through a steep road.

Wir hatten die kleine Wohnung im Erggeschoss mit zwei Schlafzimmern und zwei Bädern, wirklich perfekt und schön, leider ohne Aussicht. Wenn man in die erste oder zweite Etage geht, hat man einen fantastischen Blick auf den Adams Peak und den Little Adams Peak. Wirklich sensationell! Die Lage ist mega, einfach nur die sehr steile Straße runtergehen und man steht mitten in Ella. Das Frühstück war toll und das Team mega nett und hilfsbereit.
