Antler Guest House

Very well presented rooms in a great location. Quiet at night too, which is a bonus. Couple of issues for us, I had booked the superior room with two singles and a double, but room was actually a double with a very small single bed in an ante-room. Although the description says free on-street parking, this isn't accurate and we were advised that parking at John Lewis might be a good option, despite that being a 25 minute walk away. Did find free parking close by, but it is only free after 5.30 and before 8.30, so had to wait to go back to the guesthouse and leave early to avoid getting a ticket.

We loved this place! Our room was Tamdhu, so comfy and cozy! Everything was so clean and the house was really quiet. This is exactly what we needed! Mark was really helpful and suggested great places to visit! Margaret was so polite and kind too! We loved the fact that when we arrived at the guest house, there was a card waiting for us, wishing us 'Congratulations on our Wedding'...together with chocolate & whiskey! Even when we had a problem with the wi-fi in the room, Mark was again there to offer solutions! Hopefully, we will get back soon :)

The house is well maintained and the rooms are spotlessly clean. The hosts were tremendously accommodating when we had a problem that impacted our travel plans. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and stocked with teas, coffees and some snacks. The location was very convenient for us to walk to good restaurants and to tourist sites. Will definitely stay here when we return to Scotland!

It was super clean and large. The host was very friendly. Bus stop was nearby. You could walk to the city centre in 10 minutes.

Came away for a long weekend in mid November, stayed in the Cardhu room. Room and house were lovely and clean with excellent facilities and nice complimentary dram of whiskey, and chocolates! The gentleman who greeted us was friendly and took the time to explain a bit about the city (it was my first visit) and pointed out some interesting sightseeing activities. There was also a guide book in the room providing recommendations for local eateries and things to do, as well as a map. The hotel’s location, 20 minutes’ walk from Princess Street, was perfect for us! Perhaps the only criticism with the room would be the shower, which felt a little cramped.

This was a wonderful find in Edinburgh, and Shirley and Mark couldn’t have been more helpful with ideas of what to see and where to eat. The house is beautiful: it looks fairly small from outside but opens up like the Tardis to reveal an elegantly decorated home full of the owners’ interesting possessions. Our room, Cardhu, was very comfortable and we appreciated the little decanter of whisky – a very good one. I’m no whisky drinker but I tried a taste and I am now converted and have bought some from the same distillery. We were provided with a list of places to have breakfast but in fact, as we never travel without fruit, we were able to start the day with coffee, fruit and the granola bars provided and then hit the streets running. Or in our case, tottering gently. For us of the older generation it’s about a fifteen minute stroll into the centre, along Leith Walk which is a fascinating multicultural mix of interesting restaurants, fast food shops and ethnic grocers. We found three excellent restaurants along there from recommendations by Shirley. Parking outside is free – what a bonus in a capital city and well worth the little walk in to avoid massive parking charges. There is – quite rightly - huge emphasis on using hand sanitiser when entering and leaving, and face masks are obligatory indoors. Everything was very classy, from the glasses to the bed linen, and the toiletries are the nicest I’ve ever found in any hotel: Silver Buckthorn from the Scottish Fine Soap Co. I have now ordered some as the scent is wonderful – even my husband liked it and he doesn’t like and can’t use scented products. Mark welcomed us with a little introduction to the city but we were so disappointed to leave without actually meeting Shirley – however we plan to return and hope we’ll meet her then.

Beautiful, clean and comfortable accommodation with great attention to detail. Good position, within walking distance of many attractions. Excellent bus service.

Highly recommended when visiting Edinburgh. Walking distance into the City Centre and free parking on the road near the guest house. The bedroom / bathroom was modern ,clean and comfortable. Information supplied collecting the keys and getting to our bedroom without meeting the host. Available in the bedroom are tea making facility along with a small fridge with treats in also a small decanter of whisky . The area is very quiet. Would definite stay again. Thank you x
