"Very cozy place with an excellent onsite restaurant/pub. We were able to take a stroll into town and come back easily whenever we wanted. Service is friendly and rooms are comfortable for a good night’s sleep. All in all, a restful stay in an unforgettable historic city."

"When we were looking for somewhere to stay we were concerned that there had been no reviews written for here since 2022? However due to being offered at a good price and being satisfied with what reviews were offered we chose to stay for two nights in May 2024. The checkin was easy and the accommodation (Hen House) is well presented, comfortable and warm. We found the information folder made us smile as it referenced info from 2019 & clearly hadn’t been updated for some time. The lack of any information detailing walks we could take from the accommodation with our two dogs was also frustrating. That said, we got what we wanted, a peaceful stay in a handy location. We had an enjoyable time exploring Durham city as well as Hamsterley Forest. We self catered with no issues. The WiFi was essential for the smart TV to work, so when the WiFi was knocked off on our last day before we had even left, meant our last impression wasn’t great. If we needed to stay in the area again we would consider returning though."

"This hotel is simply stunning! We loved every part of it. We stayed in the Gala room, which was beautiful. The roll top bath in the large bay window with views of Durham Cathedral was very special. Breakfast was excellent and a real treat. A special thank you to all the hardworking staff, who were so kind and welcoming. We really liked chatting with the lovely George (hotel manager). He was so friendly and he told us about the history of the building, which was really interesting. We will definitely be returning and 100% recommend this place."

"Advertised as five star and that’s exactly what it is. Really well equipped, very comfortable and well appointed. Lovely to sit out on the balcony and look over the river at the rowing crews and the swans. Perfect location for city centre. Chris and Wendy very approachable, and well informed. A great stay. Thank you."
