As a family group of three we arrived at 5.45pm and asked if they were still serving food. Being told yes we were shown to a table and given menus. The restaurant was not that busy. About 15 minutes later a waitress came to the table to ask if we were ready to order. On hearing that we were she said she would go to get a pad. Another 15 minutes later she had not returned. My husband went to the bar to complain and received an apology and was assured someone would come straight over. A further 10 minutes went by and still no one had come to take our order. At this stage after waiting a total of 40 minutes I went to the bar to complain again. I said I was not prepared to wait any longer and we would pay for our drinks and go. A woman behind the bar said ” I am just coming to take your order now, I have been dealing with another customer”. When I suggested she was 40minutes too late and we should have been a priority as we had been waiting so long she acted as if I were being unreasonable and certainly did not give a meaningful apology. We left and went to The Bell just down the road where the food, prices and customer service were all first class. Always vote with your feet when your custom is not appreciated.
Lovely hotel, polite and friendly staff, ample parking, excellent location in the heart of town. Only negative is the stains on the bathroom walls that could easily be removed with a little more attention to detail and the cold tap hardly let out any water. Unfortunately there wasn't any real ale available whilst we were there thus stopping us from enjoying that facility.
