Imagine you spend 1300€ for 2 nights at a 4-star hotel, expecting to have a romantic dinner and relax. But instead you end up crying in your room while your husband is in pain from food poisoning because he ate a sandwich at the sauna restaurant 4 hours before. And the next morning the hotel manager tells you that you have no proof and it is probably your own fault. This is what happened to us My husband and I came to the AquaDome Therme hotel, expecting to celebrate our marriage anniversary and relax. On the first day my husband ate a sandwich at the restaurant in the SaunaWelt area. 4 hours later he started to have really bad food poisoning symptoms: vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, stomachache, weakness. Though the receptionists and waiters were very responsive and assisted us well that night, we could not enjoy the facilities and our whole anniversary was ruined. The next day my husband was still feeling weak and couldn’t eat properly. When my husband complained to the manager Sascha Rössel the next day, he told us that we have no proof that it happened because of the sandwich. He also implied that we were being dishonest. When I made a comment in English and asked if he can speak it so that I can also follow the conversation, he replied that his vocabulary is not sufficient and continued in German. In the end, he unwillingly removed the sandwich from our bill, but only the sandwich. I assume we were not taken seriously because of our relatively young age and the calm tone of speaking. Though we had a good impression of the facilities (thermal pools, saunas and the room service), the manager’s insensitivity and indifference could not let us enjoy the stay. It was not the kind of service we expected from a 4-star hotel. And it was the worst anniversary we ever had. Also the most expensive. I wish we spent the money on literally anything else. We left the hotel more stressed and disappointed than we were before we arrived. We are never going to stay there again. And I do not recommend it to anyone.
This is probably the best ski hotel we have ever visited. From the word go the staff were very attentive and could not do enough to help. The rooms (we had two of the newly refurbished double rooms) were spacious, beautifully decorated, with modern shower rooms and a separate toilet and had wonderful balconies looking over the slopes. Plenty of storage space and a sitting area with a desk and a separate television. The main television is huge and has a good selection of UK channels. For those that are skiing, the boot/storage room is on the lower ground floor, with decent sized, lockable lockers for each room. The only thing to watch out for is if one (or heaven forbid, two) of you is a boarder there really isn’t enough room in the locker and there is a strict prohibition on taking boards up to your room…. The locker room leads straight onto the slope (after a bit of a walk down a hill), which is a red run (but is a pretty easy red run) down to the Hochsolden bubble which will take back up to mid station (right opposite the hotel at the Sonnblick restaurant) and then up to the main Giggijoch mid station. Beware that on the way down the bubble does not stop at the mid station so you have to go all the way down and then back up to the Sonnblick. The restaurant and bar were both highlights. We were on the half board option and breakfast, afternoon tea and the 6 course evening dinner were all of very high quality. There is an option of an omelette or fried eggs as a no cost option cooked by the kitchen at breakfast and everything else you would expect, cooked, continental, pastries, cereals, fruit, etc. is all laid out in buffet style. The dinner orders are taken at breakfast and there is always a meat, fish and vegetarian option for main course. The starter, soup and desert course are always pre-set and there is always a very good selection of cheeses on offer. The wine list is (obviously) mainly Austrian and has an excellent selection at pretty reasonable prices. The bar is a really lovely area, nicely decorated in a older style with modern touches and there is a fantastic wood burning fire which they have on each evening. The spa facilities are very pleasant, the pool a decent size and all look over the wonderful views of the mountains. I caught COVID on day 4 of our holiday and the hotel (particularly the manager Joerg) was really helpful in extending my stay and making sure all meal orders were taken and delivered to my room. This extended to drinks and the afternoon tea… all at no extra cost (save for the cost of the drinks themselves). They also sorted out my PCR test which was delivered to my room and then dropped by them down to the pharmacy in Soelden. This is a really top notch hotel with wonderfully attentive and friendly service. Very highly recommended.
