"This is a really hard review to write because the actual hotel, the breakfast and most of the staff were excellent. The room was lovely and air conditioned which was a god send in the 30° plus heat. It was great value for money. I would have given it 5 out of 5 but for one person and that was the horrid, intimidating night porter. I know people often say that French people can be dismissive if you attempt to speak in French but I've never really found this and we've holidayed in France a great deal as my husband is fluent. On our first night at the hotel we didn't have any water in our room so after getting in from meeting friends for dinner and drinks I went downstairs to ask for some water. I asked in French and I know it's not perfect but I was going to give it a go but the rudeness I was greeted with was on another level. Not only was he rude but he was also intimidating and obviously quite liked the power of no one else being around, it being late at night and he obviously felt very much in control of the situation. He told me my French was appalling and that I shouldn't even try to speak to him because it was hideous to him. I was pretty shocked but asked for water in English and he was really annoyed and complaining that he had to go and get it for me. He did get it because I wasn't going to back down but the whole thing was really upsetting. Interestingly I was there for a wedding being held near by and my husband told the mother of the bride who said she'd had exactly the same experience from presumably the same man when she had stayed there for one night before going on to the wedding venue. She had tried to ask about the hotel being locked as her son was arriving late due to train cancellation. She is a French speaker so was horrified to be told that her French was awful and she shouldn't bother and to her questions not really being answered. I wonder if this nasty person would have done the same if we'd been men? I very much doubt it. Hotel Heritage you have a lovely hotel, your front of house day staff could not be more helpful, your breakfast was incredible and your rooms were lovely but what are you going to do about this really vile person who is discrediting your establishment? You have a duty of care to your customers not to be intimidated or humiliated by your staff. "

"After a long drive through some lovely countryside we eventually arrived at our destination We received a super friendly welcome from someone who was pleased to see us. The French host helped us with our luggage and showed us to our room on the first floor which was large with beautiful and typical French decor. Everything ! ... and I really do mean EVERYTHING was just so, spotlessly clean and super tidy ... with attention to every detail at every turn!! The room was beautiful, the bed comfy, bathroom clean and tidy, the shower with fantastic pressure - lovey shabby chic cream furniture and a huge gilded mirror The Breakfast table laid out with attention to detail. A jug with orange juice, a couple of small bowls with fruit, full baguette on a long wooden breadboard , 3 types of jam, a most gorgeous little domed butter dish, a basket with croissants and pain au chocolate ... what more could you possibly ask for !! Fabulous in every sense of the word. I cannot fault this wonderful little venue at all.. so if you are in the area, do make a point of staying - you will be pleased you did - Like we were!! Thank you again for making our stay with you such a nice one. Continued success! You so 100 % deserve it.. and let me say, that there are many many venues , large and small ... who should take a leaf out of your book to see, learn, and put into practise what you are doing with your " La Belle Vienne" You can be very proud ! "Since we stayed off-season, breakfast was not a buffet, but rather was ordered at check-in. The portions were small so I recommend ordering what you like. The location was great, within a 15-minute walk of the city center and a 5-minute walk to Chateau Cognac and Hennessy. The spacious grounds made for a relaxing stay."

"We booked Hotel Ligaro in an emergency after being badly let down by other accommodation. The proprietor went out of her way to help us. The hotel is very nicely decorated the beds are super comfortable, the rooms and bathrooms are spacious. The has a chic and tasteful feel. As a result we had a fantastic stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and return. Hotel Ligaro is an asset to Jarnac."
