ปราสาท Château de Razay

Warmly recommended and certain come back! Great location in the imense green and quiet park! Amazing for relaxing and walks/ jogging. Very well positioned for visiting the Loire valley castles. Elegant and comfortable rooms, attentive service. We appreciated having bike rentals delivered at the hotel. High standing dinner one night; convenient, very good options for a light dinner at bar when restaurant is not open. Very good wine list.

The experience begins on the approach to the Chateau. It is quite a long driveway but the house is beautiful and the hydrangeas are very impressive. The room was large and modern and had a lovely view over the gardens. The bathroom was also large and very modern. We ate dinner in the restaurant and had a very modern (yes, again) French meal. An interesting selection of dishes and one was able to compose one’s own menu from the available dishes. Chef was doubling up on occasion as appears to be the current theme in all small family businesses. The wine list was reasonable and well priced. I liked the pricing of the menu too. The gardens are extensive and lovely but they will need to up their game with the maintenance of them. The parking was a short walk from the house. The chateau is very conveniently placed for visits to the big houses of The Loire. We will return.

We had booked the Tree Room, The path to get there was lightless and slippery, the railings not solid. Once we entered the room there was a water infiltration under the front door, the lighting broken, the heating provided by a small bathroom radiator (which was falling) so non-existent, the floor of the room very damaged, the bathroom entirely made of wood with mold everywhere, also on the shower curtain. The toilet smelled like sewage (wood impregnated with pee). The railing of the private balcony was not stable and broken (we were more than 5m from the ground). I work in hotel business and it is the first time that i hade to refuse the room… It’s a shame for all serious host, it’s unbelievable to propose something like that, is dangerous for users! Visited here in May 2023 as part of a tour to Loire Valley chateaus. I spent four nights at this beautiful 15th century Chateau converted to a B&B. Is located out in the countryside, not very near any town, so there is complete solitude here. This B&B did not have air conditioning and the bathroom only had a tub with nothing to prevent water from going all over the place, so something to be aware of. Good that was not very hot during our stay so no big deal on no AC. The decor is dated, but the bed was comfortable. There is also a large outdoor pool on the grounds though I did not use that. They did have picnic tables outside to relax and enjoy a glass of wine at the end of a busy day touring. We ate two dinners at the Chateau de Razay and they were very good, including a wine tasting with a local sommelier. Breakfast was not much to choose from but enough to get you going for the day, though they would also make scrambled eggs or a muesli type dish if you wanted. Overall comfortable enough and very peaceful setting. Was a good central location for visiting 8-9 Chateaus in the region on our tour.

Ce commentaire concerne uniquement le chalet...clairement à fuir en période hivernale. Il y avait 0°C extérieur, et dans le chalet il devait y avoir maxi 16-17°C au rdc (je n'avais évidemment pas de thermomètre, mais je travaille dans l'automatisme du bâtiment, régulation, chauffage, climatisation, ventilation, depuis 15 ans...et précision : à la maison nous sommes habitués à avoir 21°C, donc on n'attendait pas non plus 26°C d'ambiance). A notre arrivée, je pensais que les radiateurs électriques de type grille-pain avaient été allumés trop tardivement...mais le lendemain matin au réveil la température n'était toujours pas convenable...et ce malgré le sèche cheveux qui a tourné durant environ 3h au total entre le soir et le matin pour pouvoir envisager de prendre une douche. Le sol du rdc était gelé, malgré 2 paires de chaussettes! Je précise que la température était convenable à l'étage dans les 2 chambres pour dormir, car moins de superficie à chauffer, sans compter que la chaleur monte. Avec ma femme et les enfants nous sommes partis après la première nuit en abandonnant la seconde... Je ne m'attarderai pas sur les autres déceptions: -faute partagée avec ********** : nous n'avons pas eu l'info pour le restaurant et les petits déjeuners, fermés pour travaux, autrement nous n'aurions jamais choisi cet établissement (nous avons 2 enfants de 8 et 2 ans), nous recherchions la facilité...pas grave, nous avons fait des courses... -réception difficilement joignable (pas de rappel, plusieurs heures après avoir laissé un message) -réception mal indiquée sur place (à notre arrivée nous avons poireauté env. 15 min sur place avant que quelqu'un ne vienne à notre rencontre, après d'autres appels téléphoniques, sans savoir si nous étions au bon endroit ou dans une partie ''privée'' du château) -éclairage extérieur en panne entre parking et chalets, nuit noire pour décharger nos affaires pour 4, dans le chemin boueux, heureusement d'une vingtaine de mètres seulement et l'employée nous a aidé en portant une valise. -néon de salle de bain HS...une lampe de chevet squate une prise...pas pratique ! -verres à vin sales, à relaver avant utilisation. -couverture réseau très limitée et pas de wifi... précision : s'il n'y avait pas eu les problèmes précèdents, jamais je n'aurais eu à passer 1h00 à chercher sur mon téléphone un autre hôtel pour le lendemain soir et fuir ce cauchemar ! Avant de répondre à ce commentaire pour tenter d'avoir le dernier mot, j'encourage vivement les propriétaires à passer une nuit d'hiver (0°C ext. ou moins), si possible avec enfants, dans ce chalet glacial. Encore pour les propriétaires : effectivement j'ai parlé assez sèchement à votre employée sur place..parce que j'estimais avoir quelques raisons d'être énervé... je suis allé de déceptions en déceptions, mais à aucun moment je ne lui ai manqué de respect... d'ailleurs avez-vous des preuves ? Suite entièrement rénovée : salle de bains spacieuse, matériaux nobles (pierre, bois massif...), lit king size très confortable, bien équipé (café, thé...). Le petit déjeuner très qualitatif : oeufs brouillés sur demande, confitures maison... Le château est très beau, le parc magnifique.
