"I love this place, not only because the bay holds a profusion of bird life, but because the place is so peaceful. The people who work here are remarkably nice and friendly. The food is delicious--easily some of the best dinners I had in the 2 weeks I spent in Chile--and generously portioned. The rooms are wonderful--huge windows looking out onto a lawn and out over the bay. Sunrises are gorgeous. Sunsets even moreso. I've now stayed here twice for 5 nights each time and if work brings me back to Chiloe I will stay here again. February is the perfect time, but I would like to com in December when it would be even more peaceful."

"Sizigia is delightful. One of the oldest palafitos in Castro, that has been lovingly and beautifully restored. Everything natural using wood and reclaimed materials. Best breakfast on our trip! The staff are charming and super helpful. It’s a really special spot. Oh and the chocolate and raspberry cake is hmmmmm!!!"

"Staying in a Palafito over the water is definitely something to try in Castro. The website tells you that parking is extra but in fact you can park for free on the street, one less thing to worry about! The staff are all very welcoming, informative and lovely. The building is of course all made of wood so when people are walking in the common areas you can hear them, but there seems to be good soundproofing between the rooms. The bathroom fittings were modern and worked well although the water ran a bit hot and cold sometimes. We had a side stilt house view room which had a comfortable bed and a patio door but to a shared fire escape so you couldn’t leave the window open. Also the window was right next to the chimney for the fire of the house next door. It was cool enough at night if the radiator stayed off. Breakfast was at a communal table which is sometimes a little bit awkward especially when you are all different nationalities. But it was freshly prepared and served with a smile by two very helpful ladies. There is a restaurant on the top floor which we didn’t use. It does however mean that during restaurant opening hours there are footsteps and chair moving noises from above and people coming to and from the restaurant don’t respect the fact it’s in a hotel. It did go quiet at night though and I certainly slept well. Bear in mind this is on the water and the town is on the hill so there can be a lot of steep up and down walking to get anywhere."

"My family and I stayed in a room on the third floor. It had an excellent view, attentive service, and great care. Every detail is evident in every corner. The common area on the first floor is beautiful, with comfortable sofas and lovely decor, and is also very well heated. The breakfast buffet is very varied and plentiful; you can see the owner's concern. The bed is very comfortable; you sleep very well and it's very quiet. Our next trip to Castro will be a very nice stay, with an excellent price-quality ratio. Our next trip to Castro will be back at Alma Chilota. You can see their concern for the well-being and comfort of their guests. For us, it's a 5-star hostel. It has parking, and the city center and the handicraft market are within walking distance."

"This place is simply wonderful. Though only a few miles from the main road, you feel like you are very far away from everything. The rooms are very beautiful, with huge windows facing the bay. A short walk takes you to the bay where you can watch birds, wander a bit along the marsh, or simply sit and enjoy the quiet. The food in the restaurant was very good and the views from the dining room are as nice as those from the rooms. Breakfast is great--excellent coffee, homemade granola and yoghurt, delicious bread as well as the standard cheese and meats. And lots of fruit and homemade fruit juices that change each day. The staff--Dora and Felipe and Kevin--are very welcoming and answer all questions. During my two weeks in Chile, this was easily--by far--my favourite stay. I have to return to Chiloé in the future for work and I will definitely be staying here!"

"If you have a reservation at this hotel, cancel it! If you have already paid, demand a refund! If you are considering this hotel as an option for your stay in Castro, look for another place to stay! I am a frequent traveler for professional and personal reasons. I spend three-quarters of my year away from home. And I can say that in this hotel I had the worst experience of my life as a guest! And all because, after arriving at midnight the day before, I was 10 minutes past the checkout time. Literally, the woman in charge of cleaning the hotel - and one of her sons, who must be a minor and I don't know if he can legally be working in this place - pushed me out of the hotel. I hope this message is read by the owners and managers of the hotel: that woman is NOT in a position to attend to anyone; She does NOT have the capacity OR the willingness to attend to people and work in a space of hospitality. These people CANNOT be working in this place."

"Tourists photograph the old rickety houses on stilts as they cross the bay on Chiloe Island. Look again. Amongst these sometimes dilapidated, always interesting old buildings are a few that have started to gentrify. Palafito 1326 has been restored, preserving its charm and the top deck little restaurant is glorious. We dined on fresh local crab and salmon, each served as art works. Get there soon because in maybe 10 years the rickety will have become commercially successful, fashionable and known."
