Camps Bay Retreat Hotel

Absolutely the best resort I’ve stayed at in my life. The staff is delightful, the food is exquisite, and the views/rooms/amenities are to die for. Ask for Lucy at the spa - the hands of an angel! Everything you need you can have in the blink of an eye. Must stay in Cape Town!!

This old house with heaps of history has a genuine feel of by-gone days when it was a family home. Set high on a hill with beautiful sea views and gorgeous gardens which are highly maintained with little walks and paths leading to a swing over a brook and a hidden waterfall, this place really is magical. It's an oasis from the hubbub of Camps Bay and offers luxury accommodation and service. a decent restaurant and bar, and if you have time check out the Spa with a forest tent with baths sitting among the natural environment, amazing. The more modern accommodation is across a rope bridge across the gorge, well worth it for our villa with private pool and wood fired Hot Tub. Afternoon tea with scones is a lovely complimentary daily treat. Most people use taxis to get around and to Cape Town - staying here adds maybe 10 minutes (we stayed in Cape Town first and then wanted some R&R at the end of our holiday). I would highly recommend Camps Bay Retreat to anyone.

Overall it was disappointing. The hotel is in a great location with the most incredible views. However the service and the quality of the food is well short of five stars. The breakfast experience was poor. Nobody would greet you or even check your number when you arrived. You have to ask for water and a couple times we had to ask for water more than once (don't know why they don't make it available at the buffet). The breakfast itself was very average. Bacon was burnt and everything quite bland. They have pancakes on their a la carte menu, but then they tell you that only the pancakes at the buffet are available (which were again not great) The pools didn't seem clean, with debris not being cleared until midday some days. They watered the grass in the morning so guests couldnt use the seats and guests had to ask staff for cushions some mornings. The staff in general don't seem to care or management have no oversight. Staff are on their phones a lot. It feels like an inconvenience to ask for anything. Trying to book a padel court was difficult and we were double booked with another group. I also asked if I could get a lesson with the coach as they had said this was available. Nobody seemed to be clear on how this should be done and after talking to 3 different staff I was given the coaches number to contact and he just ignored my messages. On the good side, our room was great, and the cleaning was always immaculate This could be an amazing hotel, but overall the service is very disappointing

Visited on a Monday afternoon at 2pm. You cannot just enter there, without a booking. Had a pleasant afternoon and good food in a marvelous scenery. Beautiful gardens and attention to details. The establishment is for higher class tourism and clients as the prices are like Europe. Massages & products are priced based on European market value. Very friendly, discreet staff members, hard-working & attentive to details. Very pleasant, relaxing experience. There is a beautiful tranquility walk through a nice little forest with a lot of things to explore & enjoy. Nicely set up and very refreshing to experience. Very nice experience.

Will definitely be back! The scenery, tranquility and surroundings are stunning. You are in the middle of nature yet Glen Beach and Camps Bay are a few mintes down the road. The hot tub on the deck at night was our highlight.

the location was ideal, a short walk to the beach and restaurants and great views over the sea. The staff were superb, attentive and very helpful. Food was good and breakfast great. Our biggest issue was we were allocated room 22, it was very small and was designed with no toilet door which was a real issue with my wife. We did complain to the manager who initially offered a room upgrade but at huge cost which we declined and then said he would enquire with maintainace if they could rig up a temporary screen, this never happened. This aside we really enjoyed our stay

The main hotel is a beautiful old villa with a lovely library to relax in. The hotel is set in the most gorgeous gardens which lead down to camps bay beach, the modern villas and rooms are accessed over a rope suspension bridge. The restaurant food was all very good. Extremely varied breakfasts, afternoon teas and the most wonderful sunset view for an evening meal and or cocktails. We enjoyed all! The views from the top garden are amazing. The gardens have a jungle like feel further down towards the beach with a wonderful wild swimming pool hidden away in the trees. The staff were all very helpful. Especially Given who went the extra mile to make sure our stay was perfect.

We had a 3 night stay at Camps Bay Resort in February 2024. If you choose to stay there make sure that you stay in the Villa part of the hotel and not the main Manor. The 2 sections of the hotel are completely different with the Villa being clean, modern and comfortable and the Manor being dark, tired and dirty. We stayed in Manor for the first 2 nights but were moved to the Villa for our third night. On our first full day we had low water pressure and no hot water in our room. On the second day we had no water at all including no way to flush the toilet in our room. We were told that this was a "municipal water issue" and outside the hotel's control. When we had no water in the room we were told that we could use the toilet in a recently vacated but not yet cleaned room down the hall from our room. When I told the management that we wouldn't be walking down the hall to use a toilet in another room they provided us with a bucket of water to flush the toilet in our room and another bucket "just in case" we needed to flush it again. After complaining to management about this they finally agreed to move us to another room in the Villa. On the final morning of our stay, 2 members of staff who knew we had a poor experience in the main Manor came to speak to us before we checked out to see how our stay in the Villa was. They both said words to the effect that "it is much nicer in the Villa isn't it?" It appears as though it is an open secret amongst the staff that the Villa is much better than the Manor and that you're unlucky if you get stuck in thre Manor.

The garden of the manor is amazing, you cannot find any other estate with the same big and romantic garden like Camps Bay Retreat. You may not need to book a room with good view as you can get good view from the garden and the manor. Do plan more time to enjoy the garden. Breakfast variety is so so. Room value for money is average compared the price but the garden save it all!
