The staff was friendly and helpful. The room and hotel are dated and did not feel quality. A few issues with the room, dresser drawers missing knobs, air conditioners would stop producing cold air overnight, set to 70 and would wake up with the room temperature at 78. The room was humid throughout. The overall temperature of the hotel in the hallways was in the mid to high 70’s and humid since the pool is in the interior of the building with the rooms a square around them on all floors. The fixtures to hold the shower shower in our room were broth broke when we arrived in our room. We let management know and they sent maintenance up right away to fix one of them. The fix caused a new issue where the shower head was not sealed tightly so water was spraying into the rest of the bathroom.
We got a water view room on west side of hotel. It was pricey but since it was our first time here, I splurged on accommodations. We had a deluxe room with jet tub, separate shower, gas fireplace and a balcony to sit out on and watch harbor activity. We had a view of the park across the harbor and watched kites flying. It's a 30 minute walk from hotel around harbor to get to park. Tiny negatives that did not affect our stay: the bathroom needed a night light. My work around was I put a small towel over the dimmed make up mirror. There are sharp corners where the metal trimmed floor boards join in the bathroom. This may be a design thing but luckily I didn't cut myself there. Also I forgot to tell the desk at checkout, the bottom bathroom hinge pin was about a third out. Door still operated ok. Shower designed badly as water hitting the door piles up on bottom ledge until it spills all over the bathroom floor. Should have a silicone deflector or something to prevent water coming out to bathroom. My work around was to spray shower toward back corner which minimized mess. Another negative that did not affect my stay, upon check out, I was emailed an amended bill that charged me 7$ for chocolates from the honor bar that I did not use. I took pictures of the entire bar and refrigerator items before departure just in case something like this occured. I called the desk from the road and explained I did not use anything from the honor bar. The clerk immediately credited my account for the charge. I did not need to send my photos. The take away, check your bill carefully. Good: Front desk staff were great and most courteous. Hotel offers bottles of water just ask desk staff. We stayed 10 nights and did not use housekeeping. That's just us. Whenever we needed anything housekeeping staff were cheerful to accommodate us. All in all, it was still a great stay. I would return to this hotel if in the area again.
This hotel met ALL of our needs - the perks included free WiFi; free parking; free nightly appetizers and cocktails ; free daily breakfast; and free shuttle service to the airport and hospital . We loved having a refrigerator/freezer and microwave in the room!! The rooms were very spacious and clean with comfy bedding. One added bonus was having a lobby refilling station for our water bottles !!! The location was perfect for our needs and we would stay here again !!!
My second time here and this time decided to extend the stay as one night is not enough. We arrived late and Walter was the night front desk employee. He was wonderful and offered us a few places that were still open to grab a bite. WE ended up going to a grocery store he suggested. When we arrived back, he made sure to bring us up plates and silverware. The next day we decided to stay in for breakfast and the food was amazing. I never say that about room service as I am in the industry and very picky and my partner is a Chef. It came up quickly and hot and tasted amazing. We decided to explore for the day them come back for an early dinner. Lydia was our server and we remembered her from our last visit here. The amazing thing is that she remembered us too. Of course, the food was great and the Chef had changed out the menu from the summer one to an amazing fall one. Lydia took great care of us and event had our food brought back up to our room as our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. Not only is the food great the staff amazing but the rooms are so peaceful and inviting and we were upgraded upon check in to a water facing room. What a treat! I work for Hilton and at a boutique hotel like this one. However, our hotel could use some lessons from the Chrysalis. I would give them a bigger review if I could. The only reason why I do not come more often is that they are always booked, and I know why!!!
The staff were great. Room was very nice except for the coffee maker. Why on earth do hotels put coffee makers in their rooms which are nothing more than a way to heat water and poor over instant coffee. If a coffee maker is supplied, it should make real coffee, not instant coffee. Lack of a shuttle in a city that is anti-uber/lyft is alway a negative. The taxi took about an hour to pick us up at the airport and on our return trip to Bellingham, the train station. Seriously, supply a shuttle like almost every other Springhill Suites in the country does. Breakfast was typical of most hotels in this range. Nothing exciting but adequate. Points lost for lack of a shuttle and dismal ”coffee maker”.
PROS: 1. The area is peaceful, quiet and beautiful. 2. Directly across the street from Bellingham International Airport (5min walk) 3. Very nice hotel 4. Lunch was delicious in the hotel restaurant…and the server was very kind and seemed to really love her job. 5. Front desk staff were very kind and professional. CONS: 1. I was at the front desk for at least 10 minutes waiting for desk staff. Although it was hours before checkin, I wanted to store my luggage so that I could have lunch on site or catch an Uber downtown for lunch. 2. My room floor had a clear sticky substance from the front door all the way to the corner where the fridge was located. It appeared to be similar to a soda explosion/spill. I didn’t realize it until my shoes started sticking to the floor. The front desk clerk was very apologetic and offered to upgrade my reservation to an executive room. As I was moving my luggage from the original room to my new room, a person from the cleaning crew was attempting to clean the sticky substance by rubbing a paper towel across the floor with his shoe/foot. I told him that the spots were still on the floor. He said that it was probably the cleaning solution that housekeeping used and they may have accidentally spilled it, but to me it appeared to be a soda spill. 3. The upgraded room was really nice on first appearance, but after working most of the day in the room…I eventually took a shower at 11-ish pm and when I pulled the the bed covers back…the bed was “unmade” under the bed covers. Then I looked more closely at the pillows…especially the second pillow, because I NEVER sleep on the front/top pillows when I’m lodging at a hotel…the pillow cases were wrinkled…and not from the laundry, but from someone sleeping on them previously. Needless to say, I was too exhausted to call the front desk and request new linen, so, I used bath towels to lie on and cover up with and never slept on the sheets or on a pillow. This is unfortunate, because I really liked the hotel. However, being short staffed may be a legitimate excuse for rooms not being ready for guests by 3pm…but it is surely NOT an excuse for having guests sleep on the same linen as previous guests. Nor wiping up sticky “stuff” with your feet rather than mopping the floor.
Booked a king jacuzzi room online for a decent price. Room was nice and evening staff nice. However next morning when I went to check out morning staff accused me of stealing a towel. I couldn't believe it. They told me to go check my bags. I was afraid they were going to try to keep my 100 dollar deposit I paid cash for night before. When I had a bath I noticed only 2 large size towels and couple small towels. My first thought was they were kind of cheap with the towels. Then I found another on edge of jacuzzi. They said staff always puts 4 towels in room and they have worked there 14 years implying I was the one not to be trusted. I was extremely indignant and shocked by the way they treated me. There was no mention of towels or inventory on my receipt when I checked in. Be sure to take staff in room when you check in to verify towel inventory or they might try to stiff you or better yet just find a place with more professional service.
