We were really looking forward to staying at this hotel. Great looking old place, fantastic location and the room was nice. Service however is absolutely woeful. Could someone actually provide service with a smile? Apparently not. Could the vomit outside the restaurant window and both sides of the entrance door be washed down or cleaned up? Apparently not. Could our room be serviced? Apparently not. Could the coffee in the restaurant in the morning be nice instead of absolutely awful? Apparently not. Could someone at reception actually fix an issue brought to their attention? Apparently not. And could they not say they would fix it but not actually do so? You guessed it. Apparently not. We got back to the room after being out to dinner only to discover nothing had been done to resolve the lack of coffee, room service etc? And reception was of course closed by the time we had returned. If you’re thinking about staying this gorgeous old hotel brace yourself for what I can only describe as the worst customer service I think I have ever had at any hotel, ever. And I have used a lot of hotels world wide.
Had some dramas initially as I had booked this through ********** and had to change the room and it was messy however Tracey at Allawah was so helpful and rang me, emailed me and in the end, it was sorted, no fault of Allawah. We stayed 2 nights, 2 couples in the Maisonette rooms (approx 100 year old building) and we had a great time. It was clean. Jarrod(?) was particularly helpful when we got there and checked us in without us doing a thing! He then went out of his way to get us included on a fully booked pizza night. He organised a table and it was a great night. The maisonette rooms are directly next to the outdoor area. We were upstairs Room 4 and my sister and her party were downstairs. I like the convenience of the rooms being in the area of the outdoor area, although it may not suit everyone. The rooms were comfortable and they were cool and breezy nights but the rooms were warm without heating. We didn't eat at the wine bank, so I won't comment but the pizza night was worth the $25 per head for pizza. Conveniently located. The only downside was there is not much parking available out back but we got a park. Thanks for the stay and thanks to both Tracey and Jarrod. Be safe!

Stayed in the deluxe room with balcony. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Triple glazed windows keep noise to a minimum. Close to city centre and trams. Justin is the new owner along with his family and an excellent host and goes out of his way to help with anything required. Greets you on arrival and shows you everything to help you have an enjoyable stay. Will definitely stay again on our next trip. Highly recommended.
Excellent location. Very clean with good facilities including a very comfortable bed & a roomy, modern bathroom. The adjoining hotel bistro was a welcome bonus. Would definitely stay here again. The only negative aspect was noisy guests upstairs in the early hours of the morning…just a bit annoying.

We stayed for 2 nights on a recent trip. The room and bathroom were both very clean. We found the bed to be comfortable and, although near the road, did not notice the traffic noise. Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable stay. Finally, we realised a day later we had left a pillow in the room. On contacting the motel we were able to arrange to have the pillow posted back to us. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and cooperative in arranging the return the pillow for which we are very grateful. We were very happy and thankful for the extra time and effort the young lady put in.

Only one cot is available (we have twins) and only stairs, which was hard to climb with babies, TV remote was very difficult to use and not many mini bar options. Otherwise, it's great. Just probably not for young families. I'd go back again with my partner alone.

The Motel room was clean, comfortable and modern, interesting feature- a code is needed to put into the door to get into your room ( No key). Had a cosy feeling but the bathroom was very tiny and the dishes, cups and glasses you had to wash yourself in the bathroom sink no room service as per say as far as that is concerned. There is a certain amount of trust in the previous guest to do the right thing I guess. On the Monday morning a male Room attendant came to rouse you out to make sure you were out by 10 a.m, and also to clean the rooms. This Motel is a good place to lay your head for the night and for a single traveller on their own. The shower needs a lot to be desired as it is tiny and the shower door just opens enough to be able to get inside and you have to step down to get in to the recess and step up to get out. The owners have done a nice job to renovate the rooms, but with no Front Office person on site it is a bit disconcerting.

Large well furnished room with large spacious bathroom. Walkin shower. Pleasant view from full door/windows to inner courtyard with pool surrounded by green grass. Enjoyed watching some families of ducks walking around there in the morning. Appreciated the tea and coffee ammenities. Everything was clean and neat. The Lake was just opposite for a walk around in the morning after checkout before enjoying a coffee and jam donut! Reception staff were friendly and very helpful.
The location was good, about 15 minutes walk to the city centre, with a Woolworths nearby. Although my room was at the back, there was a lot of noise from the road. The room was dark and gloomy though fairly comfortable and well equipped. There was a large communal table outside my door where a group of guests congregated, shouting and swearing and being generally rowdy - including on their return from a night out at 3am. When I left my room I had to step over the pile of beer cans they left behind. I won’t be returning.
We stayed a night in a Deluxe Room in Hermitage House. The room was huge, as was the bathroom, and had expansive views out over the vineyards, as well as some of the glamping tents in among the eucalypts and passing kangaroos at dusk. Our stay included a free wine tasting at the cellar door, covering most of Balgownie's extensive range. We also dined in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast - both of which were very good. A relaxing and enjoyable stay.
