This is one of the loveliest places I have ever stayed - it represents everything about the legendary New Zealand Hospitality that you have ever imagined. Run by the owner, Chet, who delivers a truly personal and welcoming experience for every guest. I stayed for four nights and every morning there was a breakfast banquet of fresh fruits, cereals, milks for everyone ( soy, oat , dairy) , freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly made coffee, hot toast and so many condiments to chose from . You sit round a large table which is social and interesting to find out what others are planning. On the one morning when I had a very early start, a breakfast was placed carefully outside my room for me to enjoy before setting off at 5.30am - such thoughtful service. My room was the little ‘sleep out’ which is a super cosy ensuite room with a lovely bed and excellent shower as well - set in the carefully designed courtyard, which has a lovely small pond and flowers and plants that clearly the local birds and bees really enjoy too. A very relaxing place to sit and unwind in after a busy day . In terms of location, when you arrive Chet takes you through a carefully, prepared map and gives you a link to a web page he has created full of useful tips and hints . The public bus system in Christchurch makes it very easy and cheap to get all over the place . Chet also offers a laundry service, but please remember this is not a laundromat, so you if you need something urgently then look for that, but if you have a day or two then your laundry is done and returned all very efficiently. So in summary, if you want to experience real New Zealand hospitality, look no further than Designer Cottage !

โรงแรมตั้งอยู่ในใจกลางเมืองไม่แพงมากในราคา - แต่ก็สอดคล้องกับคุณภาพ เวลาต้อนรับไม่ดีและไม่เคารพ เนื่องจากเราติดตาม CHC เฉพาะในตอนบ่ายเราต้องการฝากกระเป๋าไว้ที่โรงแรม ช่วงเย็นเราถามว่าเมื่อไหร่และจะส่งกระเป๋าได้ไหม ช่วงเช้า (จากวิวโมเทล) คือรอเปิด reception เวลา 9:30 น. วันที่เช็คเอ้าท์ เรารอแค่ครึ่งสิบกว่าๆ ก่อนรีเซฟชั่น และเราพบว่า รีเซฟชั่นยังปิดอยู่ และพนักงานก็ไม่แม้แต่เข้าตึก.. เราต้องรอก่อนปิดประตูจนถึง 09:45 น. เมื่อเรา (และพนักงาน!) ในที่สุดเราก็เข้าไปได้ เราสามารถส่งใต้สัมภาระได้ภายในครึ่งชั่วโมง ... ดังนั้นเราจึงถูกกวาดล้างเวลาที่เหลือใน CHC .. เราจะไม่มาที่นี่อีก!

Location is not too far from city centre and bus interchange. It is in a quieter area but walkable to most places for transport, shopping and food. Reception staff is always polite and helpful. Stored our bags as we were too early for check in and also on check out day because of a night flight. Housekeeping is done every day. Kitchenette comes with utensils and crockery, salt and pepper. Love the washer and dryer with packets of laundry powder. Please bring your own toothpaste and toothbrush though because NZ hotels do not provide them. The room is spacious enough and there are 2 armchairs and a writing desk. There are also plenty of power outlets for charging our devices. There is no restaurant within the hotel but food can be found easily nearby, unless on Sundays and public holidays. Then we needed to go to the city centre for our meals.

Perfect stay at a perfect price. Rooms and linen are very clean. Hospitable and friendly service with a smile. Close to the centre and very easy walk to the CBD. Facilities are clean and there are no maintenance issues. Kitchenette is perfect for what we needed. All the sports channels on the TV and the bed was very comfy. The guide to the area that was left in the room was incredibly helpful. Very quiet too! Thank you Toscana and we look forward to coming back one day!

I stayed at the North South Holiday Park at the start of my solo NZ trip and very happy with my choice. The owner Dan picked me up from the airport ($5) and was able to transport me with my bike. I was able to check in early to my accommodation which was great as my flight came in early and I was jetlagged. I stayed two nights in an ensuite cabin which more than met my needs. There is a Burger King, Petrol station, highway inn within walking distance and a supermarket close by. When I went to set up my bike equipment the day after I arrived, I realised my tire was flat as my airline had misokaced some of my luggage I didn't have a bike pump. Dan was very accommodating and helped provide me with tools I needed for my bike. I highly recommend staying here and shall return here for the end of my journey in the south island.

I booked a private double room and wasn't expecting a good sleep because people going up & down the staircase sounded like a herd of rhino's. However, the quiet curfew of 10pm was adhered to and I enjoyed the best sleep I've had in the last 2 months (including my bed at home). The kitchen has plenty of space & the lounge has lots of table seating. The bathrooms were clean and the shower pressure was great. The location of the hostel is fantastic but street parking is metered and limited between 9am-6pm. I arrived on Waitangi Day when parking is free & only stayed 1 night so that worked well. But if you were staying longer finding free parking could be annoying so better to find an all day free spot the night before or leave it in a 24hr parking block. There are free streets but be mindful of residents.

Stayed four nights at this hotel which has a great location and within walking distance to most attractions and restaurants. Check in was good and paid parking plentiful. Unfortunately, the lift was not working on our arrival so we had to leave our luggage in our car and walk up to the third floor. The hotel is dated and grubby as was our room. There was a trolley of dirty towels and linen left in the hallway for over 24 hours during our visit, this is unacceptable! The bed was comfortable but the bathroom towels were very thin. One day we returned to our room at 4.00pm and the room was not made up. I understand the vacated rooms are made up first but after a full day of sightseeing, it would be good to return to a tidied room. I have stayed at various Quest hotels in Australia as I am a member but this is by far the worst. As such, I could not recommend this hotel to other travellers.
